The Thai PM says another lockdown is not on the cards, despite the first case of the Omicron variant being reported in the kingdom. According to a Bangkok Post report, Prayut Chan-o-cha was responding to fears from business owners that another lockdown could be imposed during peak season “Hopefully, this coming New Year will be a happy time. We haven’t had that festive happiness for 2 years because of Covid-19. After all, everything now depends on how effective the Covid Free Setting and other measures are. It's always a good news that there is unlikely another lockdown. Health Ministry advice people to get vaccinated and hope all will make a point to get the jab but the queue for the jab in BKK seems to be long especially for non citizen living here. The next available jab in all private hospitals is around January or mid February 2022 where the Health Ministry will be able to make available the Moderna vaccine for the private hospitals.  Sincerely pray that the Health Ministry could get the vaccine in ASAP so more people can be vaccinated.

The PM says he’s confident that existing health screening measures can prevent the new and highly transmissible variant from being imported and spreading in Thailand.  “As of now, the requirement that international visitors undergo a PCR Covid-19 test upon arriving in the kingdom is seen by health authorities as sufficient to detect the new variant and prevent it from spreading here.”

Does this Junta Govt realise that there are many other ways a virus can enter Thailand - such as unvaccinated illegal workers and relatives from Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia and Laos just walking across the borders? They are catching quite a few, but there is no way they are catching them all.

Lockdown = no money coming in. Lockdowns were needed when there were no vaccines, but with higher and higher levels of vaccination, it seems lockdowns will become unnecessary, unless they are very targeted ie isolating an Omicron outbreak.
