Depends on whether the company is registered (has an office) in Thailand. Will need sponsorship/work permit. I can't really say anymore as I'm an international rotator and company covers all even though I'm consultant not full time staff. 

Working online is an advantage as simply use a vpn. Labour authorities won't hassle you.

Choose wisely on the Island residence. Beautiful places to visit but living there is a different story.
