Recommended Posts

The exclusion of Thailand from the US’s virtual Summit for Democracy cause Thailand to lose foreign investment. More than 100 democratic nations were invited to the event hosted by US President Joe Biden while Thailand sits on the sidelines with other nations including Vietnam, Laos, China, and Russia. The summit focuses on three key themes: Defending against authoritarianism, addressing and fighting corruption, and promoting respect for human rights. In Thailand, there have been numerous pro-democracy protests pushing for monarchy and government reform over the past year. Numerous protest leaders, many who are university students, have been accused of violating the […]

That's it! Moreover the constant manipulation of facts and data (e.g. concerning Covid, economy, tourism, human rights and last not least the Thai Baht) seems to become too blatant for even very well-meaning nations. Thailand - I am only referring to the government and related institutions and authorities, not the Thai people - seems to be on the fast lane to be internationally recognized as the land of lies and cheating.

Ita' a meeting of democratic governments...military juntas don't qualify...it really is that simple!

It's a meeting of 'democratic' governments as defined by the US - which is a corporatocracy - run by the corporations for the corporations. The government of Ukraine was democratically elected until overthrown by the US, as was the government of Salvador Allende in Chile, and Mossadeq in Iran - the list is endless. The US regime is certainly qualified to host a meeting on establishing authoritarianism, successfully embedding corruption, and abusing human rights. Anyone believing otherwise is simply politically and historically naive, unfortunately that includes most of the Western populous outside of South America.

"Anyone believing otherwise is simply politically and historically naive"... Indeed Buttaxe. Anyone "naive" enough to disagree with that statement should read "Who rules the world?" from Noam Chomsky - the best work on that subject.

Also anyone "naive" enough about the hypocritical meaning of Thailand's exclusion of that summit should have a closer look on the "cooperation" between the US and the Thai army and the countless millions received by the latter from the US over the years... (https://www.state.gov/u-s-security-cooperation-with-thailand/)... and the billions worth of weapons sold by the US to Thailand, including some...a few months ago. https://www.dsca.mil/tags/thailand

Finally, regardless of the political regimes, the economic regime is capitalism worlwide. Capitalism in essense does not fit with human rights. If there are profits to be made by big corporations in Thailand, they will and they are. The US "corporatocracy" do not really care for a change of regime in Thailand, this one or any other, they just want/need a mute population so it does not look like the US is doing business with an "unstable" regime. If the world cannot hear what is happening, then it is not happening. That fits pretty much with capitalism...

Beg to differ. Why are they backing the protests?

Funny coming from the current regime in the US that is incredibly authoritarian and thoroughly corrupt. Thailand should be thrilled not to be included.
