Thailand’s Tourism Minister says there will be no going back for the country’s re-opening plans, despite the emergence of the Omicron variant. According to a Bangkok Post report, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn says closing the borders is not an option anymore. “Nobody wants another border closure as it was really difficult for us to re-open the country. Our economy still suffers from the crisis, so there will be no more border seals unless we are in a very critical situation.” Phiphat says the first 29 days of the country’s re-opening saw more than 100,000 foreign travellers arrive. Reminds me of a freight train gaining momentum and speed going down hill and then someone in control decides to pull the emergency brake as the realize they approach going full out should have been at a crawl.

Let's hope that it doesn't get out of control and derail, as even all their precious little cronies and who they protect will not be safe if it is in-fact impervious to the vaccines.

"first 29 days of the country’s re-opening saw more than 100,000 foreign travellers arrive"

I will never believe anything coming out of TAT or the Ministry - but I notice they didnt say 'foreign tourists'. Looks like they realise the vast majority of 'foreign travellers' are Thais and Expats and Business people.

Nothing in that regards will change until maybe January - unless they remove the ridiculous mandatory testing on arrival and mandatory hospitalisation if testing positive - and until bars and venues are open, and masks are not mandated, etc etc etc.

Well, that must just fills me with confidence that containing the spread of Covid is their #1 priority, not the almighty tourist dollar as some party poopers would have you believe /s

Quite right too. A virus will mutate several times, like they always do. It's not bad news, that's just what happens. The symptoms are mild and the vaccines work, so closing borders would be crazy at this stage.
