The B.1.1.529 strain, recently uncovered in southern Africa and already seeing some spread, was given the Omicron name and classified as a variant of concern by the World Health Organisation yesterday. Hope the mutations that have allowed it to become more infectious and vaccine resistant also make it less virulent.

In that case it would actually be a blessing as reduced virulence means reduced mortality which basically turns this new mutant into an airborne vaccine...

It'll take some time before we find out if this turns out to be a new monster or if it turns it more into a common cold

I kinda like Omicron. Catchy name. Thais will undoubtedly overreact and blow everything out of proportion. Maybe a way for the government to hold onto that precious emergency decree?

Great name just like a new transformers movie but in viral terms🤔🤣

Caution is key. We didn't show caution when Covid first came to light. Maybe we will this time....

Thailand did when covid first came to light in 2020.  We had some of the lowest global numbers until this year.  Then the Delta variant earlier this year and lockdowns again, but didn’t have the same amount of success as last year sadly.

In the top 3-4 worldwide [for a year] regarding the management and extreme low numbers, while most of the "developed" world was entrenched in chaos and still is........things that we forget when directing unnecessary critique towards Thais.
