An agency under the Ministry of Finance has increased its 2021 tourist arrivals forecast to 200,000. The Fiscal Policy Office had previously stated that it expected 180,000 foreign arrivals by the end of the year. According to a Bangkok Post report, Pornchai Thiraveja from the FPO says this now looks likely to increase. During the first 2 weeks of November, following Thailand’s re-opening, the country welcomed 50,000 international arrivals, taking the total number of foreign arrivals this year to 100,000. Most of those were from the US, followed by the United Arab Emirates and Germany. On November 1, Thailand re-opened […]

I predict it ll be 2,000,000 tourists visiting Thailand this year. My number is bigger than both TAT and MoF, I win.

Congratulations dear doctor 👏🏼
well we hadn’t heard from the Ministry of Finance in a while. Perhaps they were feeling left out of the limelight?

So we are talking about foreign arrivals no more about tourists. I guess they got some pressure no more count the arrivals from multinational companies, Business travel, service, returnees etc. as tourists. Because also the people who pick them up at the airports are aware what kind of people are come out of the gates. It would be interesting for people from Bangkok and Chonbury how the situation is in Phuket at the airport returnees, expats , tourists? Similiar Bangkok? Sure I mean international flights not domestic from BKK. The tourists in Phuket are mostly Thais and Expats from BKK or from abroad?

It all sounds pretty reasonable and makes sense, if you read what he said.

If you don't, then it's just a chance for the usual suspects in the cheap seats to heckle and throw mud for no reason.

Ok....it's time to give the calculator back to CCSA. Don't give it to TAT. Give it to CCSA and make sure they give it back to you! TAT are still predicting future arrivals and revenue by counting on their fingers and toes....why else do you think their predictions are so totally wild?

I’m not sure what’s more scary. The fact that at  200,000, that’s about 2 days worth of arrivals pre-pandemic, or the fact that the “Fiscal” Policy Office is hailing it as something worth reporting. I’m all for positive news stories but this is taking it too far

Don't worry, their runaway calculator will top even this prediction soon 🤣

I arrived a few days ago.Filling in the Thailand Pass form was a nightmare, with dozens of failed( "system error") attempts. The payment of around 5k baht (taxi, hotel,PCR)  is a ripoff, and must be scrapped. The 24 hr lockup is totally arbitrary. My hotel told me loud and clear- we have your result, but you can only leave in the morning.WHY??? Whats the logic here?? The feeling you get is that sth is wrong, you want to spread Covid, you are a kind of criminal.Thai authorities must change all of these. The TH Pass must be made easy to handle. With 2 vaccines and a negative PCR, an antigen rapid test is enough. You should wait at the airport and with a negative result within an hour, you should be free to go.

One more request.Stop the stupid numbers game, how many will come, how much will they spend. It is ridiculous.Instead, follow my advice, and  visitor numbers will increase. Also open the bars. Why these things do not go without saying defies common sense.

Why should they change it if people like yourself come regardless and fill their pockets?

The hurdles are there because Covid is still a problem here and they are likely (and in a very calculated way) shouting that the country is open, whilst keeping the door mostly shut, trying to keep all parties that pull them in different directions relatively calm.

Totally agree with that statement. In fact, a vaccine certificate and a negative PCR test prior to travel presented at check in along with an ATK on arrival is all that’s required. Until they get to this level they won’t get many takers. Even when they do, numbers will be 25% on what they were pre-pandemic. Scrapping everything would only result in 50%-75% of pre-pandemic numbers given the situation across the world.

As you know @Bob20 this has been my view from the start. It’s the classic Thai two-step. Open but closed, turn left or turn right, same same but different.
