Absolutely everything is insane about this...never ending nightmare.

The  fact is that until we beat, or at least 'control' Covid, to the satisfaction of the various governments and medical authorities, stuff like this will keep happening.  Vaccination and some restrictions on movement and assembly are the weapons of choice and until we all get with the programme we are going to be continually frustrated by the various rules and laws governing life right now.  So all the anti vaxxers  and dumb bar alcohol drinkers need to shape up, grow a pair and deal with their irrational phobias, conspiracy theories and anti social behavior and  get a grip. Otherwise, look forward to years of all this crap we all have to deal with.

Okay, end of sermon.

Yeah would say you have that part right. ;)

You have to be insane not to see that everything is insane about that.

Or just realistic.

Inhuman rules eventually get broken by humans.

Nothing "inhuman" about it.

All they had to do was stay in their hotel rooms overnight so they could i) fly back rested the next day, and ii) not risk catching and passing on the Corona virus.

If that's too much to ask of an airline pilot, whether flying freight or passengers, and they don't have that level of responsibility, they're in the wrong job.

"Never ending" because of the selfish few who break the rules with no consideration for others - and governments who end the rules early, assuming everyone will have consideration for others.

The sooner the selfish and the stupid think about others, the sooner the "nightmare" will be over for everyone and everyone can get on with their lives, get back to work and to school, and have a good time.

No, that is not how this works. That is why 2 weeks to flatten the curve has turned into 2 years. It is why vaccinated now need multiple boosters, it is why they still need to wear masks, it is why the countries with 90+ percent vaccinated are having exploding case counts. The sooner you come to grips with the fact that this is not about a virus the sooner it will make sense. Never before in history have we shamed the healthy (or the sick) like you are doing here. You are on the wrong side of history and history will not be kind.

Imagine still thinking in 2021 that ANY gov't cares about you and your well being.

Cathay have done pretty well during the pandemic, by stopping all cadet pilot recruitment/ training, closing their academy in Australia, offering early retirement to older pilots, recruiting young Second Officers with low hours but potential,  closing Dragón Air and furloughing cabin staff. Cargo has gone on mainly uninterrupted for all large airlines. The staff were sacked for violating the airline's covid rules, simple really.

“… done pretty well during the pandemic..” Cathay has been loosing $2.8 billions during 2020. They went t from an earning of 39.1 HK cent per share (in 2019) to a loss of -424 HK cent (in 2020).

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-03-09/cathay-pacific-to-reveal-full-extent-of-covid-s-hit-to-business

The company is in survival mode. Cargo went from over 2,000,000 tons in 2019 to 1,300,000 tons in 2020.

Cathay has only 9 Boeing 747 freighters and cannot compensate the loss of revenue from passengers with freight traffic (-34%).

Their balance sheet shows a heavy financial burden with restructuration after the absorption of Rapid Air. Cathay closed their overseas hubs and had become the weakest link in the OneWorld group of airlines.

They broke the airline's rules, end of.

Cathay transported only 30,000 passengers in January 2021. This is a decrease of 99% compare to January 2020. They laid off 8,500 employees and tricked the crews by “relocating” them to HKG. But HK immigration tricked them by refusing to issue their working visas.

Cathay has been on a steep downslope since the political unrest in HKG. The government had to give them a $5billions subsidy to stay afloat and now HKG is still under strict sanitary conditions with quarantines and isolation open to essential travel only.

... but compared to similar airlines ...
