News Forum - Austria to enter lockdown Monday, Germany may follow

Recommended Posts

As Europe is increasingly engulfed in another wave of Covid-19 infections, Austria announced it will go into a full lockdown on Monday, and Germany in a national emergency is considering following with a lockdown of its own. The announcement makes Austria the first country in Western Europe to go back into a lockdown in the face of a worsening Covid-19 situation. Austria has one of the lowest vaccination rates in Western Europe with about two-thirds vaccinated, while infection rates are some of the highest at 991 per 100,000 people. They will require all citizens to be vaccinated by February, despite […]

And Austria and Germany is a precursor to the virus rearing its ugly multi evolving head. Getting cold in those parts of the world there so gonna get worse. And speaking of worse..... No doubt as CM starts to come unhinged and out of control from the idiots in power here thinking everything needs to open up. This Loy Krathong stupidity of come one come all is going to make the Songkran Gate look like nothing.

It seems with most things they either do nothing or do something totally illogical, without any thought to results to their actions. Just another day with the P.nut running Thailand.

Yeah, just another day of him and his cronies running it fully into the ground.

If only Austria and Germany had followed Thailand's lead. Reduce your testing = less cases no need for lockdown....😉

They did that in the beginnng in Thailand and most here were saying Thais were immune, it was too hot and more bs.

There are studies in Germany and Eurooe that when it becomes warmer the cases goes down and when colder up. It is not bs as you claim. They made uv light on the shopping cards for desinfection of covid and thats not bs it is science! UV light is also in the sun as more uv light or sun light covid virus is not able to survive thats why they open first the restaurants outside and not inside. There are reliable studies by universties and medical science units that the infections are in closed rooms, offices, trains etc. and in the wintertime in Germany peoole are more in closed rooms and less uv light and colder put up the infection rates. That is by science!

This is a common knowledge and confirmed in the cold countries why the infection rates go up in the wintertime nobody have to be a prof for that and you called it bs before you inform yourself first why the sun has a role and the infectionrates going up in the wintertime there or why the use uv light for desinfection by the way also for the watersupply, swimming pools etc etc.

It shows also the incompetence and lack of common knowledge of the cssa in Thailand about not swim or go to the beach. No covid virus could survive in the hot sun of the beach and uv light or in the sea it is just dumb.

Spot on. And this is exactly why the flu and other viral diseases reappear every winter in Europe or in colder seasons anywhere in the World.

The point I was making was that the govt was not testing in the beginning of this crisis and that is why covid was not detected.  Instead theories were thrown about that the sunlight and warm temps made Thailand immune from this virus, etc.  I think you are misinterpreting my response and overreacting.  There is science in uv protection but it was not what was stopping the virus in Thailand at the time.  And yes closing beaches etc. is silly.

It is just a fact that in countries with a winter time the people are more in closed rooms and it is a fact that is a epicentre for infections. But flu has also another factors combined with the temperature. What I refered to was about covid and why the knew before it will rise at this time.

Ok then we agree and sure people in closed rooms, offices or big families in closed room, factories etc are the epicenters for infections also in Thailand and no doubt about it.

Yes the idea that it is best to force quarantine many thais in small apartments or rooms is silly.  The safest place may be places like the beach which were closed.

Anecdotal to say - but here is Aust there are always less cases in the warmer parts (Qld and WA) than in those parts with colder climates (VIC and NSW).  Tasmania seemed to avoid that completely by locking the island down - who wants to go backward 50 years anyway 😉.  Seems that the actual outcome is that the virus (Covid and Flu etc) spreads more and quicker in cold weather than in hot places with lots of sunshine.  I remember seeing a study that showed those who were placed in outdoor hospital beds during the Spanish Flu, has a lower fatality rate than those inside the old school closed up and cold hospitals - maybe it is related - sure seems that way.

The Flu virus has been studied for a long time, and it is a fact that it infects more people in the winter months - the 'seasonal flu' they call it - that is why we get the flu vaccine in April/May - before winter starts in Aust in June/July.   Up north, December to February are the peak influenza months in USA/Europe - what has happened in Austria and Germany might just be the beginning - it is a worry.  COVID-19 infections and deaths are rising in 49 countries - I believe they are all Nth Hemisphere ones.  USA has 1500 deaths a day (highest) with Russia second at 1200.

Has the World started to open back up too soon? Will more countries follow suit?

I think much of that is correct. However, just one thing to add if I may. Your comments about outside restaurants being open and linking it to sun light has missed an important point. Although it’s true warm weather and UV from the sun will all reduce the ability of the Covid virus to survive, the main thing about outdoor versus indoor, is air movement or ventilation.  Being outside (even at night when no sunlight) is still far far safer than inside. This is due to the movement of air dispersing fine aerosols containing the virus.

However as you rightly say:

Cold temperatures as seen in much of Europe in winter -5 to+10, low UV in winter and Indoor settings with low or recirculated air are all perfect for the virus.

Yes and that is why outdoor restaurants and bars must remain closed so we can keep people contained inside their homes drinking.

Exactly definetly the safest place
