Here we go again. Another person who labels drinkers as "barflies". A huge section of the TH tourist industry was built on the back of these people, and nobody was complaining too loudly about that at the time. I've already made the point, that you are like a car hating cyclist. The "roads" that you now enjoy were built at the expense of the car drivers, but they've served their purpose as far as you are concerned so they can all get lost.

Wasting your time John. He’s a Troll and hence little point in trying to explain anything to him. Just have a bit of fun with him when you can be bothered, otherwise, do what almost everyone else does and ignore him. Hopefully he will go away soon. Even he must get bored of posting the same old nonsense.

Just watched a vid which included the temp checks to get onto Bangla Rd.I think I saw three which came out at between 36.3 -36.5 based on hand temps. Usually people who are well record 36.8 - 37 on forehead checks.

My first thoughts on seeing this, were that maybe hand temps are not as accurate as forehead temps. Then it occurred to me, that if I bought a beer from say 7/11 and drank that, 5 mins of handling the bottle would certainly reduce my hand temp. Then I wondered if the machine might have been deliberately calibrated to under-report temps.

Not sure I have any faith in hand temp testing!

My girlfriend and I have both had temperature of 32 or 38°c ! On many of these temperature checks .. no one really checks unless it is over then you wait outside for a few minutes and check again.. its more a formality of just putting your hand near the sensor than actually acting on what temperature it actually records

An anal thermometer with a bit of KY does a proper job.

At least that is how the vet does it with my cats.

I did post on here a coupla week back about the landlady of the wife's bar coming to her with a BIG hike in the montly rental fee for when the bars re-open again in Hua Hin.

When she told me of this I told her to STRIP the bar of everything.. ("you only rent the building" I told her..& take the actual bar out or smash it to bits! (so the landlady cannot open the place as a bar so easily later)..

When she heard the news of the bars staying closed till mid Jan. she booked a 6-wheel truck, and this next week everything from inside is on it's way to Issan..(Yes she has a big inside area to store it all at her family home).

I'm sure there is/will be many similar cases same as ours in the next coupla weeks... All good things come to an end, but we never thought it would be under these circumstances.

And how long will that take, to attract the girls (and boys) necessary and to give the bars and clubs a dust down and a lick of paint?

A week?

Maybe two, at the outside.

Roughly about that time. many people are still waiting patiently for an opportunity to live among the night owls and find revenue. It may not take very long at all.

Soliciting a hitman generates revenue for the local economy too but unfortunately some transactions (eg alcohol) provide a net negative contribution to society.

Do you think it should be legalized then, as it - in your words "generated revenue"?

Drug dealers get money & spend it, so by your thinking that should be legalized?

Take a Chinese covid swab at the same time cleaning the thermometer!

Nice one soidog. Straight to the point. Thank you for that. So nice to know folk like yourself and John can see the PA nonsense for what it is.   (NB: I would explain by what I mean by PA but unfortunately the moderators at Thaiger have the decency to keep colourful language above the belt so I will refrain).

Need proof? Compare the value to society that a fit, tea-totaling 65 year old makes compared to a common barfly of the same age.

One is spritely, probably still working and playing football with the grandkids while still earning AND spending money on other products.

The other is immobile, burdening the healthcare system and misses his grandsons football final cos its 'happy hour' down at the local dive bar.

Not one for stereotyping are you?

PS... I am currently in the "tea-totaling 65 year old" category.

They could train up the Seven girls to do it as a new service.  Maybe offer a foot long as part of the package.  😀

OPINION On Friday morning we were talking up the speculation that Thailand’s bars would be permitted to reopen on December 1. It had been a strong rumour, verified with countless politicians and police. Surely, with all the open flaunting of the current alcohol ban, the government had just given up and were ready to reopen the bars, officially. The daily Covid infections were still dropping, along with Covid-related deaths. Out of all the comments coming in across The Thaiger desk over the past month, the ‘open the bars’ was a leading contender. There were arguments that Thailand couldn’t possibly survive […]

The story Will Thailand’s nightlife survive another 2 months of closure? as seen on Thaiger News.

And this Cliwns really think any wealthy tourist is interested to come in a 3rd world junta dictatorship country where everything is down on the knees and no entertainment only to watch the poverty. Not one from Monacco or any other high end destinations will come, same like they will not go to Myanmar for a holiday. This junta countries always ends up in piverty and crime because always they destroyed the economy, the country and the people. The history showed it and just look to Myanmar and Thailand what the results are.

Yes thats the only business what will be left in junta dictatorship country and all ended up as a 3rd world country with poverty and crime. It was always like that and the history showed it. The fast program you could see in Myanmar and after everything is destroyed you see how the drug and human trafficking is rising and that we see in Myanmar and Thailand.

Nice piece but sadly it misses the mark.

Those caught up in the alcohol industry, whether they be consumers or suppliers, believe its some kind of injustice and its costing jobs and money.

Theyre naive. Its a plan by the govt to reduce the harmful impacts of the ethanol game to all sectors of society.

Respectable Thai people see alcoholism as losing face and are deeply shamed by it. If your only conversation with Thais is to a bargirl working for tips and short times, then you may not be aware of this.

This explains the drinking at a restaurant rule. A glass of beer over dinner is suitable but discos and girly bars are nothing but trouble.

If you think your beer money is worth more to Thais than protecting their culture...then you're sadly mistaken.

Absolute nonsense what are you talking and sure every Thai is aware about the reality and also about the reality of the hisos. And everybody who grow up in this country knows that. What an absurd statement about Thais and Thailand. If you ever joined business meetings in Thailand or Japan you would know the differences. What you are talking is mostly in western countries but not in Asia. Absolut the oppisite of what you wanna tell the people. I guess you not even can understand Thai or the differences in culture otherwise you would know your comment is absolute absurd!

I guess you not know how they call this government officials from this gov because of their daily vists to high end clubs or gentlemen clubs and guess what they were doing there. They gave this government houses a nickname that the pm got angry and said it is no more allowed to use this nickname. I guess you never went to any meeting or afterwork meetings of any high ranking people in Thailand and never in a company or business meeting in Thailand. All others and especially the Thais are aware of that. Please dont talk about Thailand ir Thais but know nothing about the culture or reality in Thailand and especially from the so called elites, high ranking people in Thailand. For sure you are knowing none of them.

If you are right, and I've no reason to doubt you, we will indeed see new entrants into the fray. At times like this "cash is king", and without the encumbrance of "goodwill" and many landlords competing for a relatively smaller pool of potential tenants, it might initially be a boom time for the new entrants, I would add though, I don't expect to see the same type of numbers as there were before. Pattaya in particular was reported to have 3k bars, and my guess is that it will struggle to get back to 2k.

There will always be that farang that thinks he can make money from a Thai bar - new ones arrive every year.

It'll be back

Then repetitively headbutt the fridge in the aforementioned 7-11 and you'll be in !😄

Absolutely not a chance that a bars and nightlife/entertainment venues will recover in the next 2 months. Almost 80% of the bars in the Pattaya area alone are closed forever and will not come back anymore. This is straight facts about 4 months ago and I appreciated the effort from Bryan, Nick & Phil in social media to provide the status of what's happening in Pattaya. Give them a pat in the back when you see them in person. It will extend the nightlife/entertainment venues shutdown over and over again for the next 5 years like that's been happening the last 20 months due to the fact that the PM, TAT, MPOH & CCSA are in a panicked mode right now to avoid another major COVID-19 outbreak for the 5th time which force Thailand to close for a longer period of time.
