Why at some point has no one said, so what? We are talking a country of over 70 million people. How many die every year? How many die in a motorcycle accident? Surely some rational thought must take place soon?

What death rate would you personally feel is the point where you say “so what”?  If you gave the all clear and open everything up and deaths increased, at what stage would you reintroduce restrictions? How many daily deaths would you personally think acceptable and how many would be too much for you to accept?

These are the tough questions political leaders are having to answer

To answer your questions. Around 500,000 people a year die of ALL causes in Thailand each year. Around 20,000 die on the roads each year both in cars and motorcycles. Currently, the Thai excess death rate is running at around 7%. At the peak of the recent Covid wave it was around 37%. The measures taken have have taken that figure from 37% or and additional 185,000 a year that would have died, down to 35,000 more people are dying. That by the way is around 98 people every day that are dying that normally wouldn’t have.
