You can catch covid 2 days before test in your country 3 days before you fly.. that test say no covid so you can fly.. but now 5 and half days from catching covid when you land and tested again then positive

or you can buy a negative PCR certificate

I think the mystery of the 2,000 missing people is this- it depends on who is counted. The first day, there were more than 700 Thais who arrived at Swampy- they were counted in "arrivals" but obviously not "international travellers". Same for yesterday probably.  The 2000 are Thais coming home.   They were added to the numbers to make the scheme look better.

Interestingly, despite strong lockdown restrictions, China was the fifth most popular country of origin arriving into Bangkok so far this month, with 273 passengers landing.

Why imply surprise? China is not an egalitarian society. If it were, the "One Child" policy would have seen population reduction instead of them keeping pace with the rest of the planet.

What "strong restrictions" you face in China depends on who you are.

Exactly. Today on French TV there was a report about wealthy Chinese tourists rushing into Hermès, Vuitton and Chanel stores in Paris and buying the most expensive items. These brands had their best years despite the borders being closed. These Chinese don’t look like the people you see downtown Shanghai or Beijing but more like the ones living on the Peak in HKG. This virus is definitely very smart and knows how to stay away from the Black Amex credit cards’ owners.

6 positives from over 4000 people. It's going to be okay people.

Better then the worldwide average, so easy to agree with you Dodgey

And since the rest of the world is opening up [free unhindered] travels, I would recommend Thailand to follow suit.

How did these 6 fall through the gaps of a negative covid PCR test before boarding?

This is one of the multiple proofs the PCR test fail 80% of the time and it could be the one before departure or the one after arrival. Incubation time can be a factor to consider. You may have breakthrough cases among the fully vaccinated a few days after their arrival negative PCR test.

There are many reasons for test failure. Usually if the specimens wasn't collected properly, transported properly, and test failure. Most screening tests have cutoff points, which affect positive/negative ratios. Most screening tests will be biased to give more positive results so as to avoid false negatives. The positive results then require confirmation with more time consuming and accurate methods.

Most likely is that the initial specimens collection wasn't adequate where as the one on arrival was better. Good job to our Thai health officials.

Please substantiate your 80% fail claim with evidence, as that clearly is not the case.

Even by simply seeing the number of people who present with symptoms after being taken to a (field-)hospital after a positive PCR-test and samples being screened for new variants meaning the presence of the virus is confirmed.

I think you may be mistaking PCR tests for ATK's. But even ATK's aren't failing 80% of the time.
