Plenty of skilled people in Thailand, but most would not live in Pattaya unless it's cleaned up.

This shows me also you never have been in any big multinational Company in Thailand or worked in any or in a position where you have to be skilled otherwise you would what problems they have to get skilled people in Thailand or why they had to ousource or had remanage their productions or offices. Please not talk about skilled people without having any skills ir knowledge about the reality of Companies here or the difference between their management in branches they have in south east asia.

You've lost me in your verbose response. I think that Pattaya didn't develop logically and/or with purpose. That being said I believe that the current focus of Pattaya on booze and hookers reflects poorly on the rest of Thailand.  Authorities  probably realize that the silver lining on the current crisis is that they can change things for the better and possibly make Pattaya a world class destination. With many bars already closed and walking street cleaned up, it should be easy.

Get over it but Thai authorities don't care what a few falangs think, about their booze and babies.

Omg a mindset of a kid. So who is gonna make Pattaya to Singapore. Incompetent clowns with no skills and in which time? Like a kid I want to be astronaut. Did you ever been in a high class destination like Monacco or Singapore. Do you realize the difference and hiw long ut neede to develop and for sure competent people with skills and a government with money. Dream on little kid and try to get a awareness of an adult who can understand the difference of Thailand and Monacco , Singapore, suisse or Germany. They have cash highly developped, good infrastructure, high class education system, best skilled and competent people. Sure this resources are in Thailand please realize in the outside world are also adults with common sense and able to think.

Thailand needs devopment that benefits Thais. They are not necessarily interested in places you go to drink, unless it benefits them. Look at all the places they've closed.

I guess you because you not seam to realize the difference between lalaland and reality. Thats how my friends who work at BMW like you . Maybe first check the reality in Thailand and talk to some competent people about the reality of the companies here and about skilled people in Thailand and why there are have to work foreigners that the company is able to operate or why they need my expensive friends from Germany there. Or just look in one of any productions what is the reality and learn something about where all the main industry, port in Thailand is. Then a bit knowledge about to develop infrastructure and education. Otherwise it is a kidstalking or as my friends say lalaland.

I agree that it is needed but you seams not to understand what is needed therefore. As I worked for international companies since the late 90s I am aware of the differences in each of this countries and as the company also operated in Singapore the difference of capabilities to Thailand. First the need to change the education and surly competent people in charge to manage the country. So I experienced also different governments in Thailand but this is the most incompetent I saw and the economy and companies suffered. Maybe you not realised thats why they moved a lot to Vietnam and Singapore. I know many companies who had before their headoffices for south east asia in Bangkok and moved it to Singapore. Guess why?!

You seem to have a very distorted or filtered view of Thailand and it’s approach to booze and sex. Up and down the length and breadth of Thailand, you will find plenty of areas designated as booze and sex districts, and more of them are focused on Thai patrons than on foreigners. Places like parts of Pattaya, Soi NaNa etc are just areas of concentration for foreigners. Have you ever been to the Huay Kwang area of Bangkok? Full of Places where only Thais are welcome to booze and have sex in soapy massage parlours.

Here is a report dating back 20 years:

Professor Vicharn Vitiyasai of Chang Mai University... emphasized that, 'In Thai society, boys begin to buy women when they are around 13 years old; 50 per cent of 16-year-old boys and 90 per cent of university students go to brothels. Married men also think it natural to entertain business clients and friends by taking them to brothels, and they visit brothels themselves as a part of the joy of travel.'"

 New Asia, 1999

You have been banging this drum of booze and sex being something perpetuated by foreigners in Thailand for sometime now. You have either just stepped off the plane for the first time, blind, or living in the outbacks and never travelled. Foreigners who came to Thailand looking for sex did it because it was there already and as natural to Thailand (and many other places in the world I should add) as it’s beaches.

The attached pictire is from a study of the percentage of local men who admitted to using prostitution by country around the world.

Oh you also seams not to know that capable internatiinal companies wanted also to develop the Pattaya region. I give you one of the many examples was the utapao airport to make into a hub for airbus ( maintanance parts etc etc) guess why it failed and they went out of any contracts? Because it is impossible with incompetent clowns in charge. We can go on Thailand 4.0 with robot tech , digital economy etc wih companies like Siemens, Bosch etc. And so on. Wishing and doing is not the same. He wanted a lot but accomplished zero and now you expect the same clowns will achieve anything after years of failures. Maybe you should talk to some competent people who were or are involved in such things and experienced and aware about Thailands reality.

What are we talking about? I thought it was about frustration of not opening Pattaya to bars.

From that chart it looks like the Americans beat the UK hands down on extracurricular activity. Looks like they could learn a thing or too about moral standards, yet based on that example one would have thought Americans and those above them in that chart really would benefit from Pattaya allowing the bars and their staff to return to normal more than the rest.

Not really. But you are about 20+ years out of date.

About Pattaya,  why reinvent sleaze with sleaze when you can upgrade to quality. This is the golden opportunity.

Your graft does explain why the UK feels so deprived.

Exactly and such areas are build up by locals. Nobody in Germany would think it were the foreigners who are responsible for their red area districts. Also this childush thinking but now I want to be a high end destination without have any knowledge or competence about it and not realizing it would be already or in process if it was possible and also not realizing that it is not possible with such incompetent clowns in charge and thats why all failed since they are in charge. I wondering hiw they already forgot utapao or Thailand 4.0 etc. And who was in charge and responsible that all failed. Do they really think anybody who is competent and capable to take the risk. For a development and investments there are standards and if you cannot deliver this standards it will not work. It is not by a wish or a order, the real world and economy is not like in the barracks and the ones who not understand that are just Clowns.

You have totally lost me. I have no,zero, idea what you are trying to say.

I've given up trying, as even the parts I think I can understand don't make much sense - after all, there are a growing number of international companies here requiring increasingly skilled workers, particularly in electronics and tech industries, and most of them are based in and around Chonburi.

The best thing to get Pattaya on its feet and for it to be the no1 destination in SE Asia is to legalise Casinos for the City and let it become a "new Macau".

Hasn't worked too well for Cambodia - or for Myanamar, pre-coup.

The problem is, there's nothing wrong with the 'old' Macau, which is part of China and the Chinese can still go to.

First of all the local economy who will suffer when they are not open. The 2nd thing is the tourists will decide what they want. Then what else has Pattaya to attract tourists. Beach holiday? Then you have to build up a proper wastewater management because the pipes still are going straight into the sea and located at the popular beaches and need antother flood management because all go to the beaches and sea. 3rd this to fix needs time. 4th if so why they not used the time to change and transform it?! To change it comes not just by a wish they have to do it and sure need competent skilled people and the money. Only talking and wishing . Sure many would prefer to have a Ferrari instead of the motorbike but you have to explain like you do with little kids that it costs money.

Fact resistance makes no sense and to think it is possible to order the tourists where they go or what they want is a complete away from the ground of the reality. Or to think the new economy and infrastructure will fall from the sky or the new Singapore Pattaya including the high end tourists. Maybe first go to a high end destination and to understand that or the differences in the standards. And by the way people sho go to Monacco would never agree you close their bars where they can drink their champagner and good wine. Tourists will choose by the value they get offered from their holiday destinations they choose. I guess you have never been in an high end destinations because there they love to go into good restaurants and drink wine go to clubs and drink champagner and they like to party. So the opposite what you suggesting. You are far from the reality of how things are in this world.

Sorry but I don’t follow the point you are making relating to what I said. You seem to be assuming in many of your posts that prostitution and booze culture in Thailand is as a result of foreigners. My post was to show you that in the case of prostitution and the sex industry, that’s simply not true.

As for Pattaya upgrading to a more high quality tourist environment, how exactly do you propose they do that? How do they transition all of the bars and businesses? It requires a strategic view with a massive amount of investment and an up-skilling of people. That doesn’t happen overnight and would take years. If that is a strategic view of the Thai government (it’s not) then they need to provide much better infrastructure than they do now. Something they can’t even achieve in Bangkok, so what chance Pattaya.

You seem to have a singular perverted focus on life, so ìts not possible to say anything else. So I'll stop bothering.

I'm not alone and we'll just have to see how this plays out. I would be investing in a sleazy bar just now.

You are able to think and no knowledge about the reality of Thailand! Thailand has a private household debt 98% of the gdp and yearly state households deficits. They cannot buy a car or motorbike without loans not even a phone in cash. You not know anything of simple economy, liquidity shortages and want to teach sombody here. They are broke . It is a kind of joke if sombody talking about quality tourists and change is absolute broke and have no quality. Your mind is the same of a little kid who wants a ferrari that not understand it costs money but think oh papa take from this machine (atm) always comes money there. Same like kids who think electricity comes from the plug for free. Oh and then sombody tells you some essentials of the reality of the earth and Thailand , oooh he has a pervert view. First learn to become an adult because not only kids and Clowns on this forum there are also adults and some have children and they are aware if sombody has a awareness of a kid!

I quite often disagree with you on many subjects, but reading comment after comment, yours is the one that reflects what I also personally see and understand on that subject. This diagram is quite interesting indeed and not at all suprising...to me anyway.

I am also very surprised that so many are commentating on prostitution but not one ever mention the people in the center of it: the girls. It is always poverty that attracts prostitution around the world (not suprising to observe that in Thailand many are coming from Isaan). But in Thailand it goes way further. I would doubt that in Isaan for example there is one girl who doesn't know a friend, or a friend of a friend that has not done it at some point or another, with the success stories being the ones who have a "boyfriend" (or more) sending money monthly, money pratically always to support the family. The alternative? No work? Working in the farm? Or a crap job that will earn monthly what they can get in a couple of days? And for the most successful ones, it is just an easy way to make far more money that they could earn with a "normal" job. So closed down Pattaya and another Pattaya will open around the corner. In fact, as you righlty mentioned it Soidog, Pattaya is everywhere in Thailand. Even on the quite Koh Chang there a couple of "red districts", one of them is called by people there the..."little Pattaya".
