The alleged kidnapping happened months ago and was widely reported. Why then was CNN reporting on old news.

CNN aren't "first" reporting it now. They have been reporting it for ages after months' long investigations and they will continue to do so every time there are updates up to and including the trials.

It's just that Thai media are now drawing attention to it.

Well the good thing is at least all the Thai night life has been closed for a long time so there cannot be any recycled condoms.
