The exclusion of Myanmar military leader Min Aung Hlaing from the ASEAN summit is looming over the annual regional meeting, with PM Prayut Chan-o-cha pointing to international focus on ASEAN’s response to the situation. I find it interesting, that Thailand (effectively a military junta), should be lecturing Burma (now a military junta) at ASEAN. In a Democractic country, the armed forces have three responsibilities. 1. Protect and repel any act of foreign aggression. 2. To supplement civil authorities (police) to maintain order and quell civil unrest in situations where, civil unrest causes harm to the people 3. To supplement the efforts of civil authorities in the case of natural disasters, when called upon. Anything outside of those activities is overreaching their mandate.

There is a big difference. Myanmar is a military junta sure, but Thailand's one is only a puppet junta so hence does as it is told so the big boys can stay at the trough.
