News Forum - Single-dose Russian vaccine 70% effective against Delta variant

Recommended Posts

A single-dose Covid-19 vaccine developed in Russia has been shown to be 70% effective against the Delta variant. According to a Reuters report, Sputnik Light showed 70% effectiveness against the highly-contagious strain, 3 months after administration. The data was submitted by the Gamaleya Institute, developers of the vaccine, ahead of a peer review. The study was based on 28,000 trial participants who were given a dose of Sputnik Light, versus a control group of 5.6 million people who did not receive a Covid-19 vaccine. Reuters reports that Russia is currently battling a surge in Covid-19 infections, coupled with vaccine hesitancy, […]

Allegedly "Sputnik V" was developed from stolen data from AZ servers while their vaccine was in development, so it's not surprising "Sputnik V" has similar properties.

But any claims for Sputnik Light should be scientifically documented and not be taken on face value or by reading Reuters. Anyone has valid research papers?

Or is this planted to be the basis for an announcement that the government is buying 700 million doses soon? 🤔

It took decades to develop full proof vaccines for yellow fever, tetanus and polio. Apart from Russia     Australia, India, Argentina, Japan and Germany among many others. The more research the  better the development and the more cost effective.

One step closer to a one shot long lasting 100% efficacy vaccine is good news.

Well so long as they don't start claiming it also kills head lice and ticks in nanny goats too the invermectin  crowd won't be up in arms 😂

Seriously ?
"The study was based on 28,000 trial participants who were given a dose of Sputnik Light, versus a control group of 5.6 million people who did not receive a Covid-19 vaccine."

So they gave the vaccine to 28,000 people and they had better resistance to 5.6 million that had no vaccinations at all ?
Gee, I'm surprised they didn't announce that it was 100% effective compared to people who've never been vaccinated at all !

No wonder this hasn't been "peer reviewed" (yet). Somehow I don't think their results will stand up.

It's like giving 28,000 people a 7 course dinner and saying that 70% of them were less hungry afterwards, compared to the 5.6 million who weren't fed at all.

The study was based on 28,000 trial participants who were given a dose of Sputnik Light, versus a control group of 5.6 million people who did not receive a Covid-19 vaccine.

A study of 28,000 people is large by anyones standards. Monitoring  a group of this size over any long period of time takes hundreds of people and of thousands of man hours.

5.6 million monitored ??? who is having a lend of who here?????

For who is interested, research is from before Delta (used data are from Dec 20 - Jul 21) and figures do not correspond with the press report:

The effectiveness of Sputnik Light was found 79.4% based on the analysis of data from the 28th day after receiving immunization by citizens of the Russian Federation as part of the mass vaccination program in the period December 5, 2020 - April 15, 2021. The Sputnik Light vaccine elicits the development of virus-neutralizing antibodies in 91.67% of individuals on the 28th-day post-immunization. And the cellular immune response against the S Protein of SARS-CoV-2 develops in 100% of volunteers on the 10th day.

A Gamaleya Center analysis announced on October 13, 2021, found the vaccine is more than 75% effective among subjects under the age of 60. Sputnik Light also provides much higher efficacy against severe disease and hospitalizations. The analysis was conducted based on data from 28,000 participants who had received a single dose of Sputnik Light, compared with a control group of 5.6 million individuals who were not vaccinated. The data used in the study was collected in July 2021 in Moscow.

Exactly. These studies require volunteers to participate. Many will refuse to act as guinea pigs. As Palooka said the staff involved will be large. One of the biggest problems in researching and developing Sputnik was a large anti vaccine response. 28,000 is NOT a small number.

The 5.6 million could easily be 56 or 56 million as these people are placebos.

Have you considered India?  In a country with a very high population (1.4 billion, 20x that of Thailand), and a very high population density (thus a very high-risk of contagion). Yesterday they had about 19,180 new cases of covid-19 today, and 249 deaths (per Worldometers).

Just a few months ago, India's cases were booming at about 400,000 cases per day, and about 5,000 deaths per day in mid May, 2021 (per Worldometers).

So, you would probably think it was the vaccines that helped India so much, and you would be wrong.  Their total country vaccination rate (as of October 12,2021) is 19.57% of their population (according to Ycharts), Thailand's is 33.2% (according to Pharmaceutical Technology).

Most states in India are using a combination of vitamins, antibiotics, and Ivermectin + rapid widespread testing.  So, you shouldn't be so smug about Ivermectin.

Sounding a lot like a conspiracy theory.  Stolen from az servers lol.  I think the Russians are fully capable of developing their own vaccines.

Of course the moderators do not require any sources for this unlike with the Holy Pfizer, AZ and Moderna vaccines. Nice going!

But funny that you sink your teeth into that part, because that's not the essence of it...

The actual conspiracy was actually Astra Zeneca. The original research was performed by Oxford university and they suggested a plan in which the blue print for the virus could be distributed worldwide and sold at a fair and inexpensive price so all nations and all walks of life could be vaccinated. Obviously the more the better as Covid19 does not discriminate.

Ironically Billy Gates with his "you will use a pharmaceutical company" came along and the cash register started screaming.

In summary the tax payer pays for the vaccine. They are then virtually forced by law to get the blessed jab and then the big pharma people count the profits.
