Recommended Posts

Businesses on the resort island of Phuket are counting on a 5 billion baht fund to revitalise the decimated tourism sector. Thanet Tantipiriyakit from the Phuket Tourism Council says tourism operators on the island are pinning their hopes on the fund being created. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the fund will materialise. With the money, we can breathe a little easier.” The Bangkok Post reports that the Bank of Thailand has set aside 250 billion baht for businesses affected by the pandemic. Out of that amount, 12 billion baht was earmarked for borrowing in the service sector. However, over […]

Don't need a fund to bail Phuket out. Just scrap all your stupid rules like coe and covid insurence and your 500 baht entry for starters, encourage Tourists to return instead of putting stupid rules in front of them.

10,000 tourists a day in December!

Not a chance with these draconian restrictions in place.

Give tourists what they want, or they will give what you want, to some other country.

Who's going to come, there is nothing remotely inviting, the place looks like a shithole! Muck, mess, thilth,  dilapidation everywhere!

The Governor and his people should be getting on top of it. If necessary,  use prisoners to do the work.

Painting the roads with rainbows etc is not going to cut it.

This bunch won't listen to advice they will just carry on making ways to line there pockets however there not interested in opening up Tourism otherwise they would move heaven and Earth to improve the life of the locals who rely on Tourists to put food on there table. All there doing is prolonging it and telling lies and giving false hope thinking we believe all the BS they give out daily.

Yes, but terribly profitable for the corrupt few.

Has nothing to do with locals or prospective tourists.

....and the game continues on.

This little island quickly becoming a black hole sucking everything inside

Most Thais I know are getting heartily sick of Phuket.

The tourist amenities around me in Loei are closed to tourists and have been for months because that's the way the locals want it even though a lot of the area's income comes from tourism (mainly domestic).

They've even put up signs telling would-be tourists that they're closed due to Covid-19 - with clear pictures for foreigners (which I posted here before).

Last week I saw a group of a dozen foreign tourists (almost certainly expats, as they were on motorbikes) complaining loudly and insistently to the locals that they should be allowed to see the sights because Phuket was "open".

They were told, very politely, "sorry, but this is not Phuket".

The Daily Mail in the U.K. claims travel agents are saying there has been a 100% increase in bookings to Thailand since the country was removed from the Red List. I assume that means before there was 10 people wanting to go. Now there are 20!
