News Forum - “The Rescue” – What really happened inside Tham Luang caves?

Recommended Posts

I recall it as Vernon Unsworth, as an expat resident of the area familiar with the cave and the first foreigner on the scene  who then notified  cave diving experts Rick Stanton and John Volantan who were in Britain, and not some Thai gf .

Later Unsworth  made news for slamming Elon Musk's offer  for a 'submarine' as a PR stunt and mounted an unsuccessful  attempt at a defamation case for Musk's reply calling him 'Pedo guy..'

Unsworth should have made his case in Thailand, not Los Angeles, California where financial harm has to be shown to win such a case. Then he could have set about collecting from Tesla's BoD

Oh, I hope facts are not going to spoil the story  for the movie makers😉

More like the author of the Thaiger article made the mistake- C/P infotainment not to be relied on

"Vernon’s [Unsworth] in-depth knowledge of the cave meant he played a key part in the overall rescue, as well as persuading the Thai authorities to contact British divers, his years of observations of flooding in the cave proving invaluable. At one point, when several hundred rescuers were working in the show cave section he warned that section of cave would flood within three hours, and advised evacuation. Vernon also helped persuade the authorities that the flooding in the cave would take much longer to drop naturally after the end of the monsoon season, and explained that it could be as late as January before the area the boys were trapped in might reopen. .."

It's all very well documented and reported by all of them, including in the link I gave before. He contacted Robert Harper at the BCRC, who contacted the two others as the best there were.

Rick Stanton's g/f was a nurse in Chiang Mai whom he'd met in the UK, and she became their unofficial interpreter during the rescue, but that wasn't the point of contact as described.

I think it's clear by now just what the "reviewer" knew about the incident and how much of the film he'd reviewed he'd actually seen.

Elon Musk and his mini-sub are apparently not even mentioned in the film, which puts them into perspective.
