Pandora Papers - The Thai connections

Recommended Posts

Couldn't find quite where best to  place this so put it under "General" .Guess most people have heard the exposure of many world leaders and others having offshore companies to in the main avoid, quite legally, large tax assessments in their countries of residence for various matters.

Whilst the Pandora Papers were highlighted some time ago there are now more recent investigations  as it is interesting to note that from an article referenced from;      https://www.thaipbsworld.com/

https://www.thaipbsworld.com/pandora-papers-rich-and-powerful-deny-wrongdoing-after-dump-of-purported-secrets/

"Pandora Papers expose world leaders' offshore entities, Thai tycoon families among listed "

The following is an extract;

"THAILAND

Among those listed with offshore entities are Thailand’s six families, with the Chiaravanont clan, Thailand’s richest family, according to Forbes, who is behind Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group, and the Sirivadhanabhakdi clan, the country’s third richest, which is behind the Thai Beverage and TCC Group, found to have owned several offshore entities.

Others include the Bhirombhakdis, of the Boon Rawd Brewery, the Yoovidhyas, who founded Red Bull, the Chirathivats, who control the Central Group, the Ratanavadis of Gulf Energy Development and the Osathanugrahs of the 130-year-old Osotspa."

Interesting but not surprising perhaps ?

How long before the denials by legal teams representing these families and threats for slander etc etc.?

Think that is what the various investigating teams are hoping for, then the dirt will really be released perhaps.

Don't see how it can be slander - these are factual accounts not supposition. However I love the way the holier than thou (Tony Blair etc) with their so called working class roots are squirming to death over these exposures !

Philip Green billionaire whos empire collapsed under alledged huge debts, shafting thousands of pensioners, turns out (according to the BBC) he bought 4 or 5, 15 million pound apartments in central London in the weeks just before the collapse.

Love this stuff !

Rather convenient, and expected, that such reports omitted the most influential and wealthiest Thai clan from any worthy mention - as it always is.

The subliminal and deep protection racket is still at work.

Yes even searching overseas there is no mention just yet but my understanding is that investigative journalists, such as AMM are indeed "on that specific case". But there again when Kh Thaksin was removed in 2006 he himself provided an insight and a specific example  so hence I will guess it will not be too long.

On slander--- don't forget this Thailand, leave a bad revue on a hotel and you can end up in court.

There are far richer people involved - the people you mention are of no interest to anyone outside Thailand.

That is exactly where you are wrong. Offshore companies and those so called "civilised" countries that facilitate  their protectorates into maintaining their tax haven status, make an awful lot of money managing the countless billions of currency stashed away overseas by these people.

...and they do have the interests of others. Much more influential than just within Thai circles.

Yes I understand the murky world of money laundering, I had to take 4 exams every single year to prove it!

What I meant was this leak will sell papers/clicks by the millions, however ask 10,000 average Joes and maybe 1 has heard of the Thai big cheeses. They will be of no interest or were smart enough not to allow their details to be sensitive to a leak.
