not much difference In there.. she lost her eye sight either way

Second if I am correct leaving your animal abandoned is illegal as well in Thailand

WOW 500 baht for the loss of an eye offered by the owner of the dog, the dog which he abandoned. That dog has destroyed many good things and possibilities for that child.

Never seems to any responsibilty attached to ownership or real care of animals unless they can get baht for them.  Run over a chicken and the owner has his hand out, chicken should not be on the road which is built for motorised vehicles, bikes, pedestrians etc etc not for animals to live.

They abandon them all the time, my neighbour goes a way for weeks sometimes and  leaves his dogs roaming around with no food.

This ongoing issue of dog attacks makes one think Thais do not respect the safety of their children 

This is a third world country problem that civilised countries have long solved

500bht for a child eye and the dog still lives ????

I was in Tamarindo Beach, Costa Rica

On the beach had all these dogs but they were all well behaved and looked after

 

I figured they were street dogs the resort took care

But I found out that they all had owners, they let them out for the day while they go to work and the neighborhood all, collectively, look after the dogs

It was pretty unique,,,,,,,

Not the Buddhist way I know but this dog should have been humanely destroyed. As for the offer of 500 baht compensation that's an insult on top of the horrible injury inflicted by this animal.

Yes i agree the average Thai should not own a dog they are simply not capable of understanding the needs (they are not much better with children)

In the countryside by me dogs will get poisoned by farmers for chasing cows killing chickens  let alone god forbid them biting someone

BEFORE I get another tirade of  abuse similar to yesterday i am a dog lover and have currently  3 rescued strays but they are on my property, probably bored witless but in good condition with plenty of room  to run around swim  and be happy .. they killed 2 snakes this morning and are tucking into a cooked chicken carcass now

Millions of dogs in Thailand. They are very well socialised and a tiny % cause any problems. 

Live and let live I say. I caught a snake last month. I released it in the forest. No need to kill it.

I have been in Thailand for years and never been bitten by a snake or dog.

Don't let fear rule your life.

My dog( from the US) lived in Thailand and lived in the village for a year 

 

He was brought in to sleep in the Aunt's AC every night while his cousin's slept outside (by the aunt, not by me)

Most problem dogs are taken care of dispute Buddhism.

This has resulted in the majority of Thai dogs being quite mellow. They don't hang off you like Western dogs wanting to be patted and they know their place. A large majority of western raised dogs would be all over streetfood carts etc. and be a menace. 

Thai dogs are mostly similar to the Thai people. Laid back. Sabai sabai.

 Of course there are  plenty of dogs about, some good some bad, but too many sad stray ones but sadly that is Thailand

Re  killing snakes why on earth would i want to catch one

We have plenty of land snakes venturing on to land will be attended too by resident hounds that's their job

The dogs or at least my dogs i suppose kill them because they dont like them or for pleasure

Same on the Caribbean islands. All well taken care of but they roamed in packs during the day. It was like their job. "G'night Spot. Gotta get home to the kids and the old ball and chain. See ya in the morning."

Yeah I was blown away, it was so cool

All the people in the neighborhood knew the dogs, they would pop into a bar, sit down, relax, then up again to the next spot

That works fine till a bitch is on heat then there are fights and howling all day and night.

In my experience that wasn't the case. The dogs just went back to their homes at night, had their dinner, and done. What you describe, however, was the M.O. of the dogs in Venezuela where nobody looked after them or fed them. Worse than the soi dogs.
