News Forum - Vaccination of over 5 million school students gets underway

Recommended Posts

The vaccination of Thai school students gets underway today, with over 5 million students expected to receive a Covid-19 vaccine. The vaccination drive is in preparation for the new school term in November. According to a Bangkok Post report, students between the ages of 12 and 18 will be vaccinated with the Pfizer mRNA vaccine, starting with those in dark red provinces. However, the report says the Education Ministry is considering giving just 1 dose to boys, due to the risk of a rare side-effect known as myocarditis or inflammation of the heart. To date, there has been just 1 […]

And again... I know that there are some who still believe the figures presented on a daily basis , however much they're all over the place.

But we've gone from the presented  figure of 3m students to be vaccinated, to over 5m students in a matter of days.

And they are supposed to be vaccinated in time for school opening on 1 November.

However, only 2m doses have arrived. And to be fully protected they would all have to be twice vaccinated by next week, so we need 10m doses to be administered by the end of this week. Impossible as there is insufficient stock and no way it could be done (remember, it takes 2-3 weeks after the second jab to be fully protected and the first jabs haven't even been given yet).

It is now published that they will only receive one dose. Again a new and unscientific adjustment by the government.

If the vaccination of children is required, then 1) you make sure you have vaccine supplies 2) you vaccinate 3) you vaccinate as per the available science 4) then you open the schools

You don't set an unachievable goal for school opening and then change all the rules to achieve it, while not protecting anyone properly, which was what they say they set-out to do in the first place.

Good points.

I believe Thailand, and many other countries, do not have a clue how many people are in the country at any point in time. Some, like SE Asia in general,  thanks to porous borders and illegal entries.

You'd think however with schools having a roll call, that the Education Ministry would have a reasonably accurate nnumber of attendees. So is it 3 million or 5 million?

They don't know until they do the roll call how many there are.....

I am very happy to see these young people getting a good quality vaccine. Yes there are some concerns with heart inflation but not to be overstated, as long as there is quality health care at the ready with the necessary medications to remedy the inflammation. Pfizer's vaccine has been known to have this effect in other countries, so it isn't a new thing. Rely on the procedures on how it is to be handled from other countries (particularly the US, which has had the longest experience with Pfizer). I just hope Thailand doesn't stop at one dose for boys...that would be a total overreaction!

I also hope the Pfizer vaccine doesn't get the "AZ Treatment" ie where the risk of blood clotting was blown completely out of proportion. I had AZ and like millions of other, I'm still here!

The vaccination is voluntary, so having a "roll call" doesn't tell you how many want to be vaccinated - it just tells you how many are eligible.

The "roll call" also doesn't tell you how many will be going back to school - again, it just tells you how many are eligible.

No surprise there at all.

The 3m was the number who had signed up to be vaccinated then, with their parents' approval.

The 5m is the number signed up now, now that all the numbers are in.

It's voluntary, not mandatory, so until all the names are in obviously the number's going to change.

Completely wrong, as reported here and widely reported elsewhere.

Neither "new" nor "unscientific".

A number of other countries are giving only one dose to those aged 12 - 17, as Thailand is - the UK was one of the latest to do so, starting last month.

Ad 1) no wrong, it was not reported that 3m signed up and the signing continued. The government claimed it planned to vaccinate a total of 3m school children.

Ad 2) only 2m Pfizer doses have arrived with no confirmation of further dates. Your attitude is that we can all feel safe already because the government told us 152.9m would arrive before the end of the year, which this week was adjusted to 122m. The numbers they call out change more than the weather!

Ad 3) that Thailand or the UK do it, doesn't mean it has any scientific basis. Pfizer's research on which they base their advice is all based on double jabs:

Well, I'm afraid it is as that's what happened - the signing up continued until 24 September, and has even continued past that in some areas.

The government planned to vaccinate 3m children when 3m were signed up.

Now 5m are signed up it's planned to vaccinate 5m.

This is hardly difficult to understand.

That's simply completely untrue, as the link and similar reports make clear. Two million more doses means two million more, not two million in total.

No, @Bob20, my "attitude" is nothing of the sort, nor has it ever been that. My view is i) that we can all feel safe when people are effectively vaccinated, not before, regardless of what the government say, and ii) that you have no idea what you're talking about but just throw mud at anybody and everybody in the hope that some of it sticks, like a petulant child throwing a tantrum, regardless of whether there's any truth to it.

Actually it does, @Bob20.

Your claim that it was  "again a new and unscientific adjustment by the government" (your underline) was simply uninformed garbage.

It's obviously not "new" as other countries have already been doing it throughout their programmes, and it's equally obviously  not "unscientific" since the other countries and their leading scientists and doctors have approved it.

It hasn't yet been approved and recommended by Pfizer, but that makes it unapproved by Pfizer, not "unscientific".

@Bob20, you can't stop yourself from disagreeing with anything and everything the government does, regardless of whether it's right or wrong.

Just because they get something right and you acknowledge that doesn't mean you're supporting them, just that you're being objective. As others have pointed out you're now out conspiracy theorising the conspiracy theorists.

It's all got beyond you and you no longer have any idea what you're talking about as you can't see past all the mud you're slinging wildly in every direction, and you can't even remember who you're supposed to be ignoring.

  • 4 weeks later...

The only scientific data for the push to vaccinate is to increase the bank accounts of those involved. Many states in America are seeing declines without the need for the so-called vaccine. Haven't you people learned yet that Governments intentions aren't always in the public's best interests
