Malaysia’s tourism minister says the re-opening of inter-state travel is now a high priority as the country seeks to reboot domestic tourism. Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri says other islands are hopeful they will soon be able to follow Langkawi, which re-opened for vaccinated domestic tourists on September 16. As Malaysia has 50% more deaths from Covid (22k) than Thailand (15k) on a total population less than half Thailand's size (31m), and Langkawi used to have 75.000 inhabitants (now less, as many have left after 18 months of no tourism) and vaccination rate is nowhere near required either, I hope for their sake it's incorrect.

Having even 10-15% occupation rate in the many hotels is nice after all the misery, until you have to cremate a family member or friend because it was "a bit too early after all"
