Tourism operators have expressed frustration as Thailand’s re-opening is pushed back a month, primarily due to inadequate vaccination levels. The re-opening of Bangkok, Chon Buri, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, and Phetchaburi has been postponed from October 1 to November 1. According to a Bangkok Post report, this is the third time the re-opening of Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and Hua Hin has been delayed, with vaccine shortages being the reason given each time. Thai Air Asia’s largest shareholder, Asia Aviation, has expressed frustration at the delay, with executive chairman Tassapon Bijleveld saying the flip-flopping is damaging the country’s reputation. “Airlines had […]

152.9m doses right?

Nearly 1m jabs a day right?

But only 29.000 sent to Chiang Mai this week, where they want to re-open.

Why is anyone surprised now?

I agree the Tourism operators. Problem with the Government officials is they usually have NO IDEA what it takes to run a business and the effect these decisions have on the many employed by these companies. Need to think of the MANY not the FEW when making these decisions

No doubt that’s been proven time again these last several months. You have to feel for the business. They were told to get ready, told it was guaranteed, spent money and now have to wait at least another month. People who have never had to make payroll, don’t understand.

When the government announces a reopening date for any province, tourist-related businesses will try to restart their businesses thus replenishing supplies and engaging workers.

Such random announcements thus:

1.  Deflect people away from bigger/real issues

2.  Help the economy a little (with money pumped back in by the SMEs)

3.  Give people hope and make them happy albeit for a little while thus they may not take to the street.

There are no vaccines for Thai Nationals available in Hua Hin and for non Nationals early next year.

So no point complaining as that is the truth.

Comments that 70% of people living here are vaccinated are false.

Living here and seeing all the Bangkok cars arriving for the weekend makes most people stay home for fear of COVID being imported from Bangkok.

"adding that officials should have properly evaluated the curve of the pandemic and prepared risk management plans for each area before confirming a re-opening date."

to be honest did the government and ccsa actually set a reopening date? I know local governors and mayor's all said we are ready to re open.. even pattaya mayor said they vaccinated 70% ! what ever vaccinated means now in Thailand!  1 jab sinovac yesterday "Ahh you vaccinated ! In a thai voice"

Unfortunately for Thailand the government in place right now are worse than useless, it has been shown time and time again that none of the know what they are doing and they certainly don't care about the average Thai citizen. The people complaining right now have zero options for anything to improve because the bullies are in charge and unfortunately that is the way it will stay, you can't even vote them out (that's already been seen to).

TIT.

Thailand should be opened. These restrictions are hurting a lot of poor people a lot because they live barely paycheck-to-paycheck.

Off-topic comments have been removed. This thread has nothing to do with Sweden or Israel's vaccine policies.

Well as far as I am concerned, the wealthy tourism operators can go suck an egg. Especially for when it comes to CM. It is a false distribution of money as we have it straight from the horses mouth Phuket.

yes,it would be great to get a set date to reopen.im sure those vendors and resorts who were counting on oct first, have spent time and money getting ready.now it seems to be wasted.many are ready to come to thai but also no clear info on how???ive sent many e mails to my thai embassy for months and never a reply.so guess we are just killing the days and weeks as nothing is happening.

Their mass vaccination is way too slow & when the time comes on Oct 15, it will be Dec 1st. Then by Nov 15, it will be Jan 1st and by Dec 15, it will be Feb 1st. What else? don't believe that the Thai government, CCSA and MOPH keep on saying "no quarantine" or "quarantine is waived for fully vaccinated travelers". Still have to quarantine which they have been worrying for over 18 months now instead taking care of its citizens & mass tourism to boost economy. Too much corruption been going on.

they don't know jack ship when it comes to economic matters, if it's left to them Thailand will be closed indefinitely

So next in line to be in charge of this alleged mess is the Ministry of PUBG Health ….. lead by our second favourite politician …. Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul.

I’m sure you have great confidence in his ability to lead us through this with pomp and circumstance! Though don’t hope for an improvement in financial decisions made!

Nobody seems to understand.

There is no OPENING DATE

There is a minimum vaccination percentage after which opening is relatively safe.

The pressure to open comes from individuals and businesses for economic reasons, but the government screwed up by concentrating the vaccinations on the Bangkok area, whilst they should have blanket vaccinated everywhere.

They have no policy or vision, proven by the daily inconsistent press releases.

Here on this forum too, we should be concerned for the ones that did not get a chance to be vaccinated, before you put them at risk.

You can make more money in a few months time. It will be nice if you stop your pushing, so that other people are still alive then.

…… Fake News …. Released by allegedly not just the government, but ministry of public health, tourism authority of Thailand and governors of relevant Provence’s etc etc etc.

Minister of Digital Economy and Society Puttipong Punnakanta broadly defined “fake news” as any viral online content that misleads people or damages the country’s image. He made no distinction between non-malicious false information and deliberate disinformation.

Of course they are frustrated, they don't give a flying f*** about anything but their businesses.

Got Covid on my shelves for people to catch? No problem, as long as I have customers.

Got Covid in the bar for people to catch? No problem, as long as I have some baht coming in.

Got Covid around the swimming pool? No problem, as long as my occupancy rate is high.

I no longer sympathize with these a-holes.  Their continued lack of understanding that, in this public health crisis, unless there is a safe way to do this, it shouldn't be done because it will cost even more in the long run.

That's not true. My kids are getting vaccinated next month with PfIzer through their school.

Maybe some people stay home living in fear. Others do not.

C19 is in Thailand already.

Thai people are traveling around Thailand already in their millions.

Even if they open up, not so many will come. So should just do it anyway. It won't make much difference in the big picture.

You obviously haven't seen my other posts... Thailand should not have opened up to Thais to drive around for fun either!
