Those of you who didn't like the "alleged" in the other story think it's okay to publish this as "fact"?

Terrible ordeal...

Whether or not they use "allegedly" is PC, for legal reasons or even pure semantics. Someone should be presumed innocent until proven guilty regardless of who writes a newspaper report or how it's written.

Only exception could be when someone is caught red-handed with irrefutable evidence. But even then a trial will need to take all circumstances under consideration.

Unless we get international conventions about this, it's not worth arguing about. Some countries have a ban on photos or mentioning names, even using super-injunctions. So then you just look on the internet in a foreign newspaper and "read all about it".

Maybe all articles that come from government should lead or end with the word Allegedly also.

maybe the headline should read …..

Allegedly Thai PM predicts current Covid crisis will be over in 2 or 3 weeks – 4 at the most …. Allegedly.

You know how thick the newspapers will get if you printed that with every lead balloon they try to let up?

Allegedly!

But back to original article,

She reported the incident to the police the next day but says they took no action. …

But after eating, the woman said he attacked, kicking and punching her and told her that he had paid off the police so they wouldn’t help her.

Unless there is a confession… it’s going to be a he said she said case .

Sounds a bit far fetched to me. Firstly how can a Burmese man employ a Thai when he could have brought a migrant down in his role as a broker would have been cheaper, second the old plastic bag over her head considering thats been all over the press lately because of joe Ferrari. Sounds more like someone's put an idea into her head to obtain cash. If she was beaten why were there no reports of the marks from a beating. Talking of extortion its gone quiet on Joe's arrest wonder if he has got his uniform back on.

Well the confession won't be done using plastic bags. Maybe a ballpeen hammer to his hands or s stun gun?

Article quote: The Burmese man, who works as a migrant labour broker that matches fishing boats with workers in Phuket, faces rape charges that carry a fine of 8,000 to 40,000 baht and 4 to 20 years in prison.

The woman recounted the trauma, saying she was referred by a friend to the man who said he needed someone to do laundry. He welcomed her with a meal and chatted with her about work. But after eating, the woman said he attacked, kicking and punching her and told her that he had paid off the police so they wouldn’t help her.

Well if he does have that connection to getting and brokering workers for the fishing industry, then he might perhaps be one dangerous ruthless guy with definite connections with the authorities.

Let's wait and see if fishy or not.

First I thought, what's wrong here? Did someone confuse the nationalities of the man and the woman.  But then I thought, we would hardly read something about it, if that would have been the case.

And then I got it: A broker for (mostly illegal?) migrant workers in the fishing industry has usually the same protection.

These very very bad social media accounts, they changing a lot. ;-)
