The Thais were very upset when a Covid19 strain was called "Thai variant". I wonder how they'd react to names like Storm Somchai or Storm Porntit?

"Tropical depression “CONSON”"

No. 11 Time Issued : September 12, 2021
     At 4.00 a.m. LST (12 September 2021), tropical storm “CONSON” downgraded to the tropical depression and make landfall over Quang Ngai, Vietnam or at latitude 15.0 degrees north, longitude 108.9 degrees east. With the maximum sustained winds of about 55 km/hr, the storm is moving west slowly. It is expected to downgrade to the active low pressure cell over Vietnam.

        The active monsoon trough lies across the lower North, the upper Central, and the Northeast in to the tropical depression “CONSON” over the middle Vietnam. Cause continuous rainfall over Thailand with isolated heavy to very heavy rain. People should beware of severe conditions and stay tuned for the weather update.

        Affected areas are as follows

        On 12 September: Heavy to very heavy rain

        Northeast: Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Kalasin, Amnat Charoen, Yasothon,

        Roi Et, Maha Sarakham, Surin, Si Saket and Ubon Ratchathani.

        East: Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

        On13 September: Heavy rain

        North: Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Tak and Phetchabun,

        Northeast: Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, Roi Et, Kalasin,

        Maha Sarakham, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Saket and Ubon Ratchathani.

        Central: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Lop Buri, Saraburi and Kanchanaburi.

        East: Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

        The strong southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. The strong wind and waves are likely 2-3 meters in the Andaman Sea and about 2 meters in the upper Gulf while above 3 meters in thundershowers. All ships should proceed with caution and keep away from thundershowers while small boat in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf should keep ashore until

        14 September 2021.
