The Phuket Sandbox is in trouble as Phuket’s governor and other officials say the Covid situation on the island is reaching a critical level now that there is now only 20% of hospital beds still available. Does that include the extra beds in the CIC's that aren't really hospital beds?

The ones with the thousand cases that are quarantined for 14 days that aren't really quarantined because they're not really cases because they're not really tested but just ... umm ... quarantined ... but not really ...

Sea gypsies in Koh Kaew under lockdown

PHUKET: The residential area of sea gypsies in Soi Koh Kaew 6 on the west cost of Phuket has been placed under lockdown for one week following a spate of infections in the community.

The closure was ordered after PPHO Chief Dr Kusak Kukiattikoon last Tuesday (Aug 31) confirmed that 248 people had been tested in the area, and 100 of them had been confirmed as infected with COVID-19.

I understand the Thai policy to put PCR-positive people out of their environments, separate them in hospitals, to break infection chains. But what i really don't understand is, why they do it with tourists. It causes incalculable costs for tourists, even they are already vaccinated, even they have a low risk for severe illness, have in most cases no one as family in Phuket they could infect in a home quarantine. For vaccinated tourists it would be sufficient to advice them after positive test to stay 7 days in hotel. Thailand will not get rid off sars cov 2 anymore. Tourists with trustworthy vaccination certificate and test will never be a big driver of the pandemy in Thailand.
