Officials performed a mass cleaning of the port yesterday ahead of the reopening. The port had been closed for 2 weeks after a Covid outbreak from fisherman who had come ashore following a period of weather that rendered them unable to catch fish. Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew scrutinised the cleaning yesterday alongside Phuket Fishery Association President Somyot Wongboonyakul The governor says Phuket has 17 fishing piers registered to the Department of fisheries, but only 10 of the piers are being used to haul fish ashore.
