The Thai military has filed a complaint against Nattacha Boonchaiinsawat, an MP from the Move Forward Party. In the complaint, which was filed at a police station in the north-eastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima, Nattacha is accused of producing fake documents during the ongoing no-confidence debate. The debate against the PM Prayut Chan-o-cha and his government got underway on Monday. Nation Thailand reports that army spokesman Sawarat Saengphol has accused Nattacha of presenting falsified documents at the debate. Forged signatures are a big no-no and used as evidence is a crime. If true send this MP to jail, regardless of what the “fake” document’s contents. Can’t have “false evidence” in the pursuit truth just ask Dan “Fake but Accurate” Rather

The fact that they are trolling though the documents to try and find things wrong with them, means they are worried about the ever-growing negative feelings in Thailand towards them and what they are doing (and not doing).  That is a good sign. If they were not worried they would just be ignoring them.

If the accusation is correct, and these documents are proofed to be false, then this MP should be arrested and brought before a judge.

Fore or against this criminal government does not matter. Only true evidence should be used.

That's often a problem with Thais, they mostly can never spell their family names and have to resort to child-like single syllable nicknames.

Isn’t Nattacha Boonchaiinsawat protected under parliamentary privilege?

 

Members of the National Assembly enjoy parliamentary privileges, enshrined in the constitution. These include the "words expressed in giving statements of fact or opinions or in casting the vote" in a joint session of the National Assembly; no member of the House of Representatives or Senate shall, during a session, be arrested, detained, or summoned by a warrant for an inquiry as the suspect in a criminal case unless permission of the house of which he or she is a member is obtained or he or she is arrested in Flagrante delicto.

The two houses also retain the privilege to decide its own rules and procedures, committees, quorum of committees, sittings, the submission and consideration of organic law bills and bills, the submission of motions, the consultation, debates, the passing of a resolution, the recording and disclosure of the passing of a resolution, the interpellation, the initiation of a general debate and committee members.

What has it got to do with the military? their job is to protect the country from outside forces, not to persecute and prosecute those opposed to this corrupt government

This may be true, yet such surface concern is nothing but a showcase and the usual defensive rhetoric.

They most certainly hold any clear majority and manipulation prowess regarding parliamentary procedures.

It wont make any difference at the next election - they are going to be voted out. The question is - will parties aligned with the Junta get enough votes to form their own government and therefore protect the Junta members and what changes they made, or will parties aligned with the opposition parties get enough votes/seats to form a government and therefore make the changes they want.

My read is that at the last election a lot of people in Bangkok and surrounds went with the Junta party because they did not trust the parties against them (red shirts as they saw it).  My read outside Bangkok was that many people did not know or trust all these 'new' parties, so they voted for either 'red' or 'yellow' parties as they saw them.  My other thought is that a lot of people right across the country did not realise the importance of the election and did not vote.  My belief is that all of that will not happen anywhere near as much as it did in 2019 - Thai people everywhere now know who is who in politics. I think there are some  people inside the Junta and many more 'supporters' outside, who also have these views, and that is why they are desperately trying to get dirt and damage the opposition and its members. I believe they will not be able to hold back the storm/flood that is coming. Covid will be seen as their undoing - but that was just the spark - their incompetence and corruption is why.

No - sorry - but that is mainly wrong.  Firstly, this matter occurred inside the parliamentary process, and that that process is 'protected' against such things - they were not being done in the public arena. Secondly, the issue is did the MP create the allegedly fake documents, or was he given them and believed they were real. If he did create them or order them to be created, then yes you are right. Then the matter should be investigated (inside Parliament process) and have him expelled as an MP.  Either way - it is not a Court issue.

Like most others, you clearly don't understand how things operate here and contemporary history - and how it's always been here. 

The Junta and deep associates will retain their hold by any means that they'll choose for the moment. 

Shouldn't become too romantically entrenched that these nasty entities will be coming to an end anytime soon and "the change" is upon us.
