I have used my Bank of America and Wise accounts to transfer into my Bangkok Bank account.

I need to transfer some money back to my Bank of America account from my Bangkok Bank account.

When adding my Bank of America account (with the Transfer feature) on the Bangkok Bank website - I see "America - Bank of America National Association" listed in the bank drop down menu.  Google tells me: "Bank of America, National Association (BofA) is a large banking and financial services corporation headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is a subsidiary of the Bank of America Corporation." so assume it is correct.

I assume this is the proper Bank of America?     Has anyone done this?   It is odd they do not ask for a routing number.

I do not see Wise so assume I cannot transfer into my Wise account?

I do see an International Transfer menu but that seems to indicate you have to complete a paper form and visit a local Bangkok Bank branch.

I am also in the USA at the moment and notice I need a OTP sent to my Thai number. But I wonder if that would work if I am only on wifi here as my Thai service is not roaming (out of country)?

After you have clicked Next, a One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your mobile phone number 092 XXX 4601 via SMS.  Please make sure your mobile phone is turned on and has a signal.

It won't work, a few years ago I was in this situation in France (Kasikorn account), I called their customer service and they sent me the code via email.

My advice would be to call them and explain the whole situation to them, Kasikorn have very competent English-speaking staff and I am sure it is the same for Bangkok Bank.

Then why not visit Bank of America yourself ? You use the word 'assume' in your post, assuming anything in the finance field can lose you a lot of money.  A simple inter bank transfer is possible from a Thai Bank.  How that can be achieved when you are not in Thailand, and able to visit your Branch,  I'm not at all sure.  I doubt that it can be done, unless you have a debit card that works internationally ?  If you are in need of funds in the US until your return, a loan there, to be paid back when you return to Thailand, may be a way ahead ? I did that in reverse when my wife and I bought our house, cash,  in Thailand and then paid it back immediately on our return to the UK. But they were different days I guess.

I go to see them tomorrow to check on the name that Bangkok Bank shows..

I was just curious if anyone else had experience...with transfer to Bank or America or Wise from Bangkok Bank.

I have transferred from my Bangkok Bank account to my Wise bank account in the past (you probably already know this, but Wise issue a Belgium-based BE IBAN when you open a euro account with them). It's straightforward, though there is a fee which isn't cheap (I recall it is about 1,000 baht) and you receive your money in the Wise account 1 day later.

Interesting.. do you use the App or website?

I am using the website and do not see that  (Wise) listed in the menu of Banks to add so I can transfer

I use the app, from what I can recall, you just add the IBAN and the system figures it out.

By the way, it isn't that risky in my experience, if some information doesn't check out, your money won't disappear, it will bounce back to you within a few days (I've seen that happen before when a US client wired me a payment but got something wrong).

I can't use the app now as I have an updated phone and need to wait to get back to get a code to verify it.

The website has a list a banks to choose to add as external account. I don't see anything related to Wise.  I have used Wise to transfer I to Bangkok Bank as it was cheaper even with fee than using Bank of America as the latter transfer rate was worse.  I'll email Bangkok bank if Wise is there .

I would call them directly for more speedy and effective processing. Here is the number from overseas:

Bank America tells me the name listed by Bankgok Bank is correct (Bank of America, National Association).  The SWIFT code for Bank of America, N.A. is BOFAUS3NXXX

However to add them to my account and to send requires a PIN sent to my Thai number (assume SMS).  (I also need to make other local transfers.)

I am trying to get AIS to fix their Android app as some features are NOT working (i.e., Packages) and many complain in the Play store about it.    I wanted to get a short term roaming package so I can then turn on my Thai eSim and get the PIN while I am here in the USA.

But has anyone done this.... used their Thai number (roaming in the USA) and able to get a PIN?

It should work  - in theory 🙂

Don't know about AIS, but my wife did it with Dtac in France and it worked fine. I just remember it being expensive, like 2,000 baht per month for the roaming package, but worth it if you need to receive an important SMS.

[Edit] As I mentioned before, a few years ago, a Kasikorn agent sent me the PIN via email for free, so it's worth giving your bank a call and asking them about it IMO.

Thanks.  I'll send a message to Bangkok bank through the website and ask if I can get a PIN via email.

Bangkok Bank reply below (but they could easily verify my email and allow it but I guess do not offer that):

Please be informed that the OTP dispatch function of this service cannot be deactivated, applied to a foreign mobile number, or sent to an email address, as this is a measure to maintain the highest level of security.

Okay, thanks for the update. I did it several years ago, when regulations were probably less stringent.

Yes the bank is a little behind. I worked in banking in the USA.. and most (and other sites/apps) will let you set up email for receiving a PIN.. :)  You just go through a verification process :)
