Tourism operators on the southern island of Phuket say Covid-19 restrictions must be eased to help the sector recover, even with a surge in infections. The island has been recording around 200 daily new cases in recent days. However, Thanet Tantipiriyakit from the Phuket Tourism Council points out that the infections are mostly caused by local activities as opposed to be being brought in by tourists. According to a Bangkok Post report, he says fully vaccinated visitors with negative PCR tests should be allow to enter the province from elsewhere in the country, in order to help the economy. Well if it's only local activities causing the issue then of course there's no problem !

I'm sure the residents of Bangkok could twist that statement to open up too as it's only locals and not tourists arriving.

Oh yeah, good idea!

Let the tourists stroll around / live in the "dark red" zones, and after get back to Phuket. Just with ONE test before arrival.

Does not really occure to him that this handling, letting locals from everywhere in Thailand on to Phuket, but not testing them additional minimum twice on the Island and requiring ASH-accomodation, might have been the reason for this rising infection numbers?

Anyway, this numbers are from proactive screening, mostly : Migrant worker camps and markets, malls, workspaces with "after one infected got sick".

That seems, to me, can only be the tip of the iceberg.

One like that sank the unsinkable Titanic!

A case of the Emperors News Clothes.

I think everyone knows that the lockdowns have not helped in any way that can be measured, but no one wants to admit it, which is one of the reasons why full reopening is not being done immediately.

The  virus is already present in over half the population by some accounts and nothing is going to stop it reaching everyone by the end of the year,

The second reason science is not prevailing, is the clout of Big Pharma and Media to make sure their prospective cash cows are not allowed to die

Only one person does not want to, and he wants to save face. The Hodgepodge of lock downs is a bit like helmet campaigns run in Thailand, largely ineffective. Too much corruption to be truely effective, you can just get away with murder. But, hey, that’s another story.

"Chernporn Kanchanasaya from the Federation of Thai Industries says it’s vital to continue the vaccination of as many Phuket residents as possible"

but they said they vaccinated over 70% before they would open before July 1st !

I've  Also read, over 700 now had positive antigen tests and they are kept in isolation..they are not counted on the daily total of infected until they have had a pcr test.. but they are not giving pcr tests to many of these they just keep them in isolation (2 hotels next to our condo !) Until the 14 days are up then allowed to go home.. I've had 1 friend and his 3 year old daughter put in one of these isolation hotels.. also see 1 or 2 ambulances taking people to hospital each day from these isolation hotels

My point is stop hiding the real numbers just because you want money !

“Without an easing of the curbs, all will be ruined.” - Exactly. Even if they can get the bars and restaurants open again, Phuket isn’t going to get the numbers as long as other countries are so much easier to visit.

Absolutely. They're prepared to take a huge risk for very little return.

Never mind the man in the street.

The decisions they want to take are becoming criminal.

More BS to satisfy the numbers. It should be 1 set of rules for entry to Phuket (same rules for International arrivals and domestic arrivals) you've already stated that International arrivals already feel cheated and now you want to propose different rules for domestic arrivals, get a grip.

TIT.

Phuket is the only dark red zone by percentage of the population which cannot admit the failure. It's good thing it's an island and could be easily isolated

local arrivals are by far the greater number. And paying not only/mostly into the pockets of Hotel owners.

Just they are or have been the worst covid checked visitors on the island.

Remember, People from Bangkok as red zone, could arrive on Phuket with a 6 days old test!

And did long time not tested, at the bridge.

What did Dr Kusak say? He urged the public not to panic over international arrivals bringing the virus to Phuket. But to worry more about domestic arrivals.

He was soooooo right!

I've been saying for weeks now, the fully vaccinated, ( two shots) tourists are not the problem.

The problem is the the partially vaccinated locals, or even the fully vaccinated,  as they have been jabbed with the useless Sinovac. It is useless against the Delta variant and that is what has exploded in Thailand.

The Sandbox was a good idea, not perfect,  but a good idea. The prospect of having a safe holiday destination was good. However,   due to poor management, not delivering on vaccines, greed, restrictions, mixed messaging etc, etc, etc, it has become a crock of shit.

People are not making a living as the number of tourists are not here, possibly a dubious 22,000 currently as good as nothing!

The trust of mass tourism, in the messaging is not there. The 2021/22 High Season is finished I believe possibly much longer.

Therefore, hit the pause button, sort out all the points previously outlined, and relaunch it in the new year. The UK deciding to put it on the UK red list did the scheme no favour. People with brains are not going to spend good money to put themselves through all the current crap.

Sad, but time to face facts.

Why is it that Phuket is looking towards Indians?

Just because they had good market numbers in the past before Covid?

Why are they allowing workers into Phuket if they are the ones spreading Covid?

Why are they not mandated to be Vaccinated?

This is wrecking the Sandbox!🤔
