Every square inch of beach in thailand is divided up by various mafias of one sort or another.

Why is this dump being singled out.

True. Having recently driven/cycled around most of Phuket during the sandbox, and now biking around Samui, two things stand out - 1) how many truly awful resorts there are, and 2) how they make all the beaches so inaccessible.

Before Covid is over, someone needs to take a sizeable fleet of bulldozers to about 70% of the construction in Phuket/Samui/Pattaya and level it all and start again. Unfortunately this won't happen, so expect Thai tourism to be over in a decade or two when 'Paradise' is horribly trashed 😐

Looks to me as a retaliation against island cutting off Pattaya visitors. In any case, it's a pretty darn good news. Island could be nice if they remove all those chicken houses from the beach

Same goes for Samui and Phuket.

I think the beaches get encroached upon in a lot of places but the authorities ignore for various reasons - or maybe different laws apply to different areas.  These were being built in 2018 and appear to possibly go further out onto the beach than they should have.
