Quality tourists - exactly what Thailand wanted and got. Until TAT is investigated and disbanded, the TAT lie that 1 million tourists equals X Billion baht to the economy, will continue to be believed. The number is an estimate, based upon very conflated figures made prior to Covid.  TAT claims that 1 tourist equals 52,000 Baht - and that includes all the border crosses (foreign arrivals) from Cambodia, Laos and Malaysia.

Until this country has Laws that allows journalists to expose and question fraud and corruption in Government Agencies, then this daily expose of tourists causing problems will continue.

This kind of behavior is of course not a new thing... citizen journalism, posted to Facebook, is the world we live in. If you're going to come and do stupid stuff... expect to get caught and face the consequences. Laying blame elsewhere is an excuse. The danger is... the more westerners act this way will create an atmosphere of animosity towards those of us trying to live here long term. These "tourists" behaving badly need to be punished. And I don't want to hear any whinging from the apologist crowd regarding how the authorities handle these cases or laying blame elsewhere except where it belongs. The fact is, if you're going to be stupid enough to get yourself into this kind of situation, then expect to be treated accordingly... with an equal amount of stupidity. We should all expect everyone involved to behave like adults (including the authorities investigating this)... but that clearly doesn't always happen now does it. Personally, I think these tourists, if they are found to have been the instigating party in all of this... should spend time in jail and pay a fine.
