Thailand’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration reported 18,702 new Covid-19 cases and 273 coronavirus-related cases today. Since April 1, the CCSA has reported a total of 1,110,708 Covid-19 infections. In the 24-hour period since the last count, 20,163 recoveries were reported. Thailand now has 185,200 active Covid-19 cases. With the latest and most severe wave on a downward trend, there is talk of loosening disease control restrictions. Out of the new cases reported today, 342 were found in correctional facilities. More than 40,000 inmates have tested positive for the virus over the past several months. More information will be released […]

Thailand really seems to be bucking the typical case numbers trend especially given the low rate of vaccination. Is anyone doing real reporting and checking with hospitals to confirm the number beds assigned to covid patients is actually falling ? It is hard to understand how Sydney has failed to contain delta despite a significant effort and yet Thailand has succeeded. I'll be happy to eat humble pie if numbers continue to fall.

It's my understanding that the numbers are steadily in decline. That would be more of an interest of study as to whys and wherefores.

If today the number is 17.900 and tomorrow it's 17.800, that's not "a drop in numbers". It lacks the detail to draw conclusions.

What I understand from several sources, is that about 100.000 tests are available each day, but only about 50.000 are used.

From these 50.000 about 20.000 are positive, that's 40%. And it's been around 20.000 per day for weeks and is not significantly going down.

But you can't say 40% of everyone is positive, because they mostly test in high-risk areas. It's not random testing.

What we know is the average mortality rate. It's about 0.5%. So, 300 deaths means that approx. 2-3 weeks ago 60.000 people carried the virus. That's 1:1000. But it's not evenly spread, it's mostly in clusters and concentrated in and around Bangkok.

Far too early to ease restrictions and send it all over the country (AGAIN!)

Have to agree - it has a feeling of look we’ve tried everything else and everyone hates us anyway let’s just go for it !

I think too soon with the low vaccination rates but let’s hope for the best.

If they really ease restrictions then I think if you're sensible and have not been vaccinated, you don't go crazy and keep doing what you were doing in the time of the restrictions. Stay away from crowds and protect yourself.
And if you have been vaccinated and if you're a half decent person, you do the same because you're lucky that you have been vaccinated and run less risk of severe problems, but you shouldn't want to transmit the virus that you may carry to those who were less lucky and and we're not given a vaccine yet.
If something's allowed, it doesn't mean you have to do it and/or take it to the limit.

It is pointless going into detail about the numbers, the number of new cases here in the UK is going up despite the fact over 75% of people have had both jabs.

The good news here is most of positive cases have very few symptoms and the number of people in hospital is low and those in hospital are mostly people who did not bother to get their jabs.

Therefore in Thailand the number of hospital cases and deaths must be a lot higher than shown seeing as very few people are vaccinated and also the fact the Delta version of the virus is a lot more infectious.

Many other countries around the world do not believe the numbers Thailand is publishing and that is why Thailand is on so many countries red list.
