Why! surely they can exist for a day without alcohol if they are too thick to find ot about these things in advance and get a few bottles from the 7 the day before!

It's about appeasing the tourists while still maintaining control over the masses... NOT about reverence or any of those silly things... after all.

I’m all for banning the sale of alcohol on days of religious/cultural significance. The argument for such bans extend beyond religious observances. I don’t get the prohibition of alcohol sales between 2-5pm or the ban on sales of alcohol prior to and on election days. Aside from making no sense it must be frustrating for those establishments with a liquor licence.
