News Forum - Public Health Ministry to propose easing of restrictions for vaccinated residents

Recommended Posts

With the number of active Covid-19 cases on a downward trend, the Public Health Ministry plans to make a proposal to ease measures for those who are fully vaccinated, or who have passed Covid-19 tests, in provinces classified as “dark red” and “red” for high infection rates. The ministry plans to propose dine-in services at restaurants to be allowed for those who are vaccinated and those who test negative for the virus. Under the proposal, domestic flights from “dark red” zones, which are currently suspended, would be allowed for passengers under the same criteria. The proposal will need to be approved by […]

Fully vaccinated people can still  catch covid and give it to someone !

Ideally technology has to develop reliable a inexpensive  covid  test ,  that can be used over and over again on site and given to everyone before entering a event, establishment ,airports and other high risk areas .!

Only 7.9% of Thailand’s population have been fully vaccinated, as of 18 August 2021. So over 90% of Thailand will not be able to dine in or fly for travel under these new restrictions.   As of 18 August 2021, 27.5% have received one dose of Covid vaccine and should be allowed to dine in at restaurants or fly to travel, otherwise it will be months before restaurants or airlines will have enough customers to turn a profit.

Given that vaccination does not prevent transmission or reinfection, what exactly is the point of this measure?

Exactly - it's a classic end lockdowns too soon move.

Edit: for once, @AdamX, we're in full agreement.

The point is many of the ministers and their HISO friends simply want to go and dine, or be seen dining, at those overpriced restaurants Bangkok is famous for and inaccurately described as fine dining establishments.  Now if you transpose "over priced" for "fine" then it would be more truthful.   That said in order for these playboys and girls to get out again without dodging netizens who will expose their behavior and other pitfalls then they are simply coming up with ideas that may appear more palatable to consider and implement. It is irrelevant whether it is safe to do so or not in their eyes as after all they are the Elite and HISO's so what does it matter what anybody else thinks ?

I hear Hilary 1 and Morning Night have world famous "menu".

Wonder if they will take advantage of this and re open their doors!

Idiot thinking. They have learnt nothing about covid or vaccines.

Vaccination does not prevent infection or spread, it just reduces severity. So the vaccinated could potentially infect the whole restaurant more easily than the tested.

The 8pm closing time is a nonsense. Closing at any time has no bearing on covid transmissibilty. Vaccines don't suddenly stop working 8pm until 7am.

The 50% capacity is a nonsense. If they believe the people allowed to sit are safe, then a capacity restriction is irrelevant.

You can't even get tested in a lot of places because hospitals don't have capacity for the immediate arrest and imprisonment of offenders (positive cases).

Then we have the lack of vaccinated people at this time, making the policy irrelevant to restaurants anyway.

The CCSA are just a bunch of control freaks.

I suspect, with the state of the Thai economy, that it’s mostly expats that have the discretionary income for dining in restaurants. That said, with the delay and only recent availability of getting vaccinated, how many “fully vaccinated” expats are there? I’m not scheduled for my second jab until mid-October. So, they open restaurants with these restrictions and will have no customers?

Also the restaurants will require to be SHA+ as well, ie both shots, to open. So maybe one or two restaurants may open under these rules, or more if they buy their SHA+ sign from Khao San Road.

Are we talking Farang-style/themed dining establishments?

All of which have little bearing on the broader economy.

They always move to fast with stupid decisiones but that is why he is a clown 🤡 saying this makes people believe when you vaccinated you can do what you want...

Lots of people see through the new quick-to-fail plans. Now we just need to resist temptation.

But if we behave sensibly, the numbers don't go up, and the government will claim succes 🙄

On the other hand, they will claim succes anyway, even with 900+ cases in Phuket.

Just hope they don't go ape and open up interprovincial travel from areas with high numbers or more sandboxes to multiply the numbers from Phuket.
