I once did a border bounce in Mae Sai/Tachilek, many years ago. Nice people and area in my experience.

My first two experiences of Thailand back in the 90s were border towns. Sungai Golok and Sadao on two trips. 

Neither were especially representative of Thailand, more like Malaysia. 

Otherwise, I’ve crossed the border at Trat and Nong Khai.

Would like to check out Mae Sai one day.
