News Forum - Bangkok’s traffic gridlock gets a tech-tock fix
Yes there are bad ones, where there is not enough room to slow down outside the fast lane, and where merging on the other side means going across to the inside lane. But there are not that many really bad ones, but I agree that with so many bad drivers here who cannot do simple things safely, my idea would need some changes to the roads. In the absence of that, then at least they should set the lights on timers that makes those on the side roads wait at least 60 seconds, and then gives them 30 seconds to make the turn. Making a highway stop as soon as Somchai arrives on a village road and then giving him 60-90 seconds to cross is all wrong.- 1

Unfortunately you are probably correct. But I am only suggesting what they could do - not saying they will do it. It astounds me every day how many Thais ride motorbikes (scooters) on busy main roads without a helmet - in and around the local village that is fine - but on a road where cars are travelling 80-100Ks?? -

News Forum - PM pledges to polish Phuket into a top-tier tourist hotspot
I think you are right. Prior to Covid Greg Norman's company had contracts to build over 100 golf courses in Vietnam. Obviously it all stopped back then, and I think with LIV Golf he is focused elsewhere now, but that is an indicator of how serious Vietnam is in taking a large chunk of tourism business from Thailand. We play golf a lot, and since the 1990s I dont think many new golf courses have been built in Thailand. Thailand has in general been sitting on their laurels - but things have been changing around them. Following on from 10 years of a military dictatorship - and post Covid - Thailand is not changing enough to stay ahead. Every single country in SEAsia is or has been developing more attractive long-term Visa options for retired Expats from the West. Thailand has stayed with their draconian methods, and I looking to impose income taxes on Expats. It seems to me that they still think it is 1990s and they are the only option aside from Singapore or China. -

I know a bloke that has been going there from Australia for many years. He comes to Thailand for the girls. He said the best are in Bangkok and Phuket - and he much prefers Phuket to Bangkok for a few weeks visit. Probably a lot of blokes are like that - and if I was to only come for the girls, then Phuket would be better.
