Income requirement for legal marriage in Thailand

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am aware that I need a proof of income for marriage visa but how is it for the marriage itself? I am a student living in thailand without an income, all my income comes from my family. My partner, a thai woman is a business owner with a fair income.

I noticed that on the Affirmation of Freedom to Marry form there is a field that asks for my job and my income.  Is it okay to put 0 there? I tried to google but didnt find anything or anyone talking about similar situation.

I‘m a bit worried about this, the embassy that gave me this form does not really know much about it.

Thanks.

There is no financial requirement to get married in Thailand, although there are fees to cover.
First check the requirements at the Amphoe where you intend to register the marriage.

Most will require an Embassy issued 'affidavit' of freedom to marry, and an Embassy certified copy of your Passport.
These then require translating into Thai, then legalising by the Thai MFA
Fees obviously apply for these services.

Once married, you can apply to stay in Thailand based on Thai spouse.
There is no 'marriage' visa, you first apply for a Non Imm O visa based on Thai spouse which grants a stay of 90 days, then you can apply to extend that 90 day permission of stay for 12 months every year.
Financial requirements apply for the Non Imm O visa and subsequent extensions of stay
