"Thailand currently hosts at least 4,000 wild elephants, with an annual birth rate increase of 7 to 8%. Projections indicate the population might reach 6,000 within four years, a number that poses challenges given the country’s diminishing forest areas."

How about stop diminishing the forest? As for elephant contraception it could be srgued that the most out of control species is human beings so maybe a bit of human contraception?

Was thinking exactly the same thing. Humans out-populating elephants by an order of magnitude. Humans encroaching on elephant land, not elephants encroaching on human land.
