A million THB sounds a lot but is very little when compared to the sort of compensation that would have been paid out in the west.

Maybe insurance pays out also? Plus the 300 baht tourist tax must have some squirrelled away. A million baht is peanuts. And what about the associated bills? Autopsy, shipping the body home etc..
