I found Apple Air tags work well when a dog wanders off. Good peace of mind also.

As the Apple Air Tag doesn't work much past 100 feet, it's not much use in finding a wandering dog, unless the animal has only two legs and is as pissed as a newt.

True but…. Air tags use Bluetooth to connect to ANY Apple device within 100 feet. That location is then broadcast to iCloud and you can see it with the Find My app. So “technically” tags can be located anywhere there is a nearby Apple device. Hit and miss and far from ideal but better than nothing.

But then, you have to be within 100 feet of the dog?  Can't you just  call it?
