I was frequently slapped in the face by my father from childhood into my teens and can definitely attest to the psychological trauma it leaves. There is absolutely no reason to slap a child out of anger or frustration, it doesn't teach them anything other than "I do not have the patience to teach you what's wrong with what you did, so I'll use physical pain to teach you not to do it."
