I was there on a work stay in 2005 around March / April.

Walking along Kata Beach, one wave came up a few meters further than the others, beach vendors scatter, howls of laughter, splashing and shrieks of “tsunami”. I thought it was a bit too soon for humor, but they would know better than me.

I probably would have been there at the time if I hadn't broken my leg in a motorcycle accident a couple of months before (a London cabbie u-turned in front of me while signaling that he was pulling over).
