Lesson for all. Don't leave brain at airport.

Bit harsh. It could’ve happened to anyone. Wrong place, wrong time.

No it couldn't happen to people who don't drink loads of free shots.

Laos and Cambodia are very backwards nations. I wouldn't be drinking loads of free shots there. Stick to commercial beers.

I agree - dumb stupid party girls having a 'good time' and drinking anything put in front of them. See them all the time in Thailand - and the males chasing them - all young idiots having fun and not thinking ahead. Up to them - their lives lost - hopefully their 'lesson' will save a few others who hear about this and think again about doing stupid things. If it had happened in one of the big cities in Australia, they would all probably still be alive.

Show a bit of compassion you dill. Like you’ve never had a few shots in a bar before. But yeah, they got what’s coming to them. I bet you wouldn’t be running that line if it was one of your own.

Idiots die daily. 3rd world country. Free shots. Likely home made crap with a 50% chance of death if you drink a lot.

They were 19, Bob, of course they were stupid. I'm sure you can recall what it's like to be a teenager :)

This is the bar's fault and I hope they get the punishment they deserve – though I won't hold my breath.

Yes I hope the bar is punished severely.

Yes I was 19 and stupid - but I would never have travelled to a 3rd world country and drunk large amounts of 'free' alcohol given to me in a 3rd world bar.  I also did not take heroin when it was offered.  Likewise, when I rode my motorbike I did not race around like an idiot and get killed.

I once took over as manager and there were two 30+ year old teenagers working in the Office - they did not last long.  Some people just never grow a brain and never grow up - way too many these days.

I understand where you're coming from. I don't know if I would have drank that stuff at 19. Maybe I would have… or maybe I would have noticed something fishy and passed.

The dumb ones, IMO, are the hotel/bar management. How could they think it was even remotely a good idea to serve contraband booze to Western tourists? Thick as two planks.

She was 38, and one guy was 57 (now that's weird…). But the girls mentioned in the OP were 19.

Past the age of 25, no.

The thing is Beerlao is great. Best beer in the region. Why drink vodka that probably tastes like drain cleaner?

Ozzies and Brits like to get hammered with shots, particularly the women.

I love Beerlao and that's all I drink when in Laos.

Northern Thailand has it too. As does Nong Khai and Udon. Usually women drink wine.

Also, it was free and backpackers don't have two pennies to rub together.

You can get it anywhere in Thailand as far as I know. I used to drink it regularly a few years ago, then went off it a bit and only have it when I'm in Laos.

Hard to find in the south but maybe changed. 7/11 stocks more beer now. 20 years ago they have like 5 choices only.
