That's rich coming from a country that doesn't believe in preventative maintenance... how far behind is the PM on buses... dams... roads... etc.

There are interesting back stores to the issues around the problems of RR, not least poor recruitment into UK University engineering courses for many years, poor UK engineering teaching, lack of advice on engineering apprenticeships for years, much better salaries out of the UK for skilled engineer's and flip flop UK government policies and finally UK immigration polices by successive governments, preventing or reducing  the recruitment of overseas engineers.
