So the truck driver didn't park close to the roadway... What the hell does that mean?

Is the truck on the road or not? Did he have Any red rear lights showing? 

It would not surprise me if the bike rider hit the truck due to poor lighting and no rear lamps on the truck.  I hope the police check.

Parking trucks, cars, etc on the right of way is a tradition in Thailand, almost a sacred right... that said... when living with and dealing with this type of behavior isn't it incumbent on a person to take precautions like proper headlights... slowing down to a speed that allows one to stop within your headlight beam... you know... like self preservation???

I looked the site up in Google maps street view because with time I'm gradually losing it with the bs on the roads. Well right there in Street View is a similar truck parked in the exact same incredibly dangerous spot in the main left lane, so it has to be the "normal thing to do". It is right before the road narrows from 4 to 3 main lanes, meaning if they just stopped 50 meters further straight ahead they'd be parked in the slow motorcycle/escape lane and it would be about 100 times safer because of the narrowing road marking that calls for attention and reducing speed. Instead they stop in a way that you can't even see the road is about to narrow if you're traveling on the left lane. And they must be in such awe of how naturally the trucks fit there.

Thing with reasonable Thais is they see the infuriating nonsense happening on the roads every minute of every day but it seems to me they will just keep going about they way confidently, trusting the future does not hold more nonsense.
