So this bright tourist gets himself lost but has the brains to call for help. 

The search party can't locate him overnight so resume the search in the morning. 

At 5pm the search team try and text the tourist to see if his phone is still alive only to find that he (the tourist) had managed to find his way out at 1pm.

What a plonker.  Did it ever cross his mind to let the authorities know he was ok and to stand down in the search?
