People in Japan choke on mochi every year 

Especially New Years the govt issues warnings as people eat shiruko and ozoni then

Indeed. I read somewhere that January 1st has the highest death rate in Japan, most likely due to overindulgence and the like.

Just did a google search, couldn’t find the article…

Then don't drink coke... regardless we are discussing "dessert" (usually a sweet course or dish usually served at the end of a meal) after all... not designed to be a main course.

Never tried coke as a dessert...
