Recommended Posts

New Zealand’s prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, says the country hopes to re-open its borders from 2022, adding that the process will be a gradual one. According to an AFP report, Ardern says being cautious is vital if New Zealand is to avoid importing the highly-contagious Delta variant currently wreaking havoc in many countries around the world. And only one case of the Delta variant in the community will see an immediate level 4 lock down. ( New Zealand strictest lock down level ). Thankfully our vaccination rate is starting to pick up. We could have gone faster but decided that we would only have the Pfizer vaccine. This has definitely slowed things down due to supply issues, but as an island nation that has been able to slam the door shut quite quickly we have done alright. I feel sorry for New Zealander’s. They are like the Thais but a year or two later. This virus is going nowhere. You can vaccinate and vaccinate and vaccinate. As soon as you open your borders cases will get in and an outbreak will occur. The Thais basically ran out of time in trying to stay locked down and are now in a total mess.

Will New Zealand  lockdown again and again and again? I hope for the people of New Zealand they can quickly learn that case numbers are irrelevant once the population is vaccinated. Then it becomes a question of how many are you prepared to tolerate dying of Covid each year? If the answer is a target of zero, then it’s time to pack up and get out of the country. Unless you wish to stay in the country for the rest of your life and never leave.
