You know how insecure you have to be to call it a red flag that someones wife wants to do something productive in her life?

When her intended actions put her husband's Thai Immigration status in jeopardy, then I call it a red flag.
If it was of no concern, then he wouldn't have posted about it.

Pssssst! Still waiting for a copy of that 'Marriage' visa.

Sometimes, better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt, particularly when you think you have knowledge of the topic, but in fact you don't know what you're talking about.

But your original post didn't say anything about throwing my Immigration status into jeopardy. You raised concerns about my marriage.

Sorry, but that would immediately throw up red flags for me regards the marriage.

While I appreciate your concern, as I said earlier she has her reasons, all of which are sound, but I am not interested in entertaining them.

We moved here at great expense during the 2nd COVID lockdown.
I'm now `3.5 years from retirement and don't fancy the idea of returning to Oz, where we have nothing, and would need to start again. Then do it all over when we move back. Any cost benefit from working there would be quickly eroded by our relocation and setup costs.

She feels the need to be closer to our grandson.
Her daughter announced 2 weeks before we left that she was expecting. We haven't met him yet.

There are other reasons as well, mostly around being able to provide for her extended family better on an Australian income than a Thai one.
We support them now, but I've made it clear the level of support we provide is all I'm prepared to offer.
If she wants anything more she needs to earn the money herself.

I've tried convincing her that it doesn't matter what we give them they will always want more (particularly her mother), she will always feel guilty about it, and they will always disrespect everything we provide anyway. But she's hellbent on doing what she can.

She's talking short term at first. 6 months or so to see how we feel about it, then take it from there.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who has contributed rationally to this discussion.

As to the descent into slanging matches and trading barbs, I would have hoped we were beyond this.
Surely most of us on here are of a mature age and don't need to regress to that level.

To be honest, it is a prime example of why I have no interest in socialising with farangs in Thailand.

@BigHewer can you close this topic please?

Some have a monthly pension income of 30K THB per month, or even less,

I think the combination savings/income is still available...10000 baht in the bank and proof of 30K income or any combination that => 40K

The Combination Method is only for Retirement extensions, only accepted by some IOs, and the annual total, Bank + Transfers must be over 800k.  Ooops, Liquorice has already said that.

I have 400k in the bank and do 35k per month, via Wise as International Transfer (FTT)  so it is accepted at Phitsanulok.
