Kind of an ironic post coming from a conservative who is against illegal immigration

But I guess these illegal immigrants have the right skin color, so that's ok....

But I am an agreement that it would be no skin off my back and don't wish any ill-will or bad luck on them

But I guess I would fall under one the people who say they shouldn't be there if they can't do it legally.

If you can't afford the pretty easy requirements for a marriage visa you shouldn't be living abroad and having kids.....IMO

Plus, so many of those guys took the easy way out

They didn't want to stay back and work and save for a proper life abroad

So then, again because they have the right skin color, we are supposed to have sympathy for them.....

The only one making it a skin colour issue is you.

I agree some people do bad planning and would be better served by having more foresight. Another thing which is very risky is to completely sever ties with one's country of origin, often thinking they can just come back and get free medical treatment, for instance (usually not the case after a year or so of not paying taxes anymore).

But basically what I am saying is we should not make blanket statements, nor judge people without knowing their circumstances.

And it has absolutely nothing to do with the issue of illegal immigration in Western countries. Those farangs who bring in 30k+ per month (but fail to meet one specific financial requirement) are not a burden to Thailand in any way, shape or form, do not cost Thai taxpayers any money, don't steal Thai jobs.

I have absolutely no idea what your ramblings are about!

Illegal immigrants were never mentioned, or are you referring to a Country other than Thailand?
What is a marriage visa, can you post an image of one?
Why reference skin colour, and what has that to do with the topic?

What is so hard to understand??

If you get a "dodgy " illegal extension, you are an illegal immigrant

And people like @rattlesnake rail against illegal immigration but when it's white guys in Thailand doing it, that's ok and people should be sympathetic to them breaking the law

Again, not hard to understand

Feeling sympathy for someone illegally obtaining a visa is supporting illegal immigration

Plain and simple

You can spin however you like because you find these illegal immigrants acceptable (and again, we know why) but it just makes you a hypocrite

If I had defended Russians working as tour guides or taxis, your argument would be valid. These are nefarious immigrants whom I would be happy to see deported from Thailand.

But here you are equating things which are not equatable.

I don't focus on skin colour when I analyse political, economic or societal trends. I will tell you as often as necessary, I am sure you will eventually understand.

Incorrect.

In order to apply for a 1 year extension you must initially have a Non-Immigrant visa.
Extension are permits, not visas, and they only allow a 'temporary' period stay.
We are therefore not Immigrants, but Non Immigrants.

The permit stamps are genuine, issued by an Immigration official, however they are obtained by an agent circumventing the financial requirements.

Where's the image of the Marriage visa?

For a lot of insecure guys(and there are so many in Thailand), it would be a red flag

For people in a healthy marriage who married an independent woman, it wouldn't be.....

And it would be OK for woke simps too - just saying.

If you have all your tax returns and taxation issues sorted, then go right ahead. But if not - then I would not recommend anyone going beyond Retirement or Marriage. Reason being they are managed differently, and if this 'new tax regime' progresses under the new PM/Govt (as I fear it will for Expats), then this sort of Visa will be one of the first group of Expats 'checked'.

You raise a lot of valid points for what I presume, is a relatively small group of expats living here, on the bread line so to speak. We can't avoid the obvious point that living outside your own citizenship country is not risk free and the longer you live elsewhere, and establish a new life, the riskier it becomes.  If you then 'compound' the risk by establishing a family and having children, you better be absolutely sure that you are financially self sufficient and  independent as a family unit. Too many people do not sufficiently understand this and do not plan ahead for changes in Thai law, immigration rules and even the attitude of the government to foreigners. It is their massive mistake not to do so. You see this when, say, a UK citizen sends his half Thai kids to appalling Thai schools and doesn't even bother to get them a British passport.  I have seen several instances of this.  How irresponsible is that, but it just goes to show how some don't know, or don't care, or think, wrongly as it turns out, that they can live like a Thai, while not having citizenship or PR. .

My move here took many years of planning.  My half Thai daughter was fully educated in the UK and Taiwan and is a British Citizen, living and working in the UK. That was planned.  I follow the immigration rules and I have bolt hole plans if it all goes txxs up at some point. I am far from being a Socialist. I made my way from a relatedly poor, 'working class'  background and I expect others to do the same, or at least try. I don't expect the State to bail me out and I'm not particularly sympathetic to those who do expect it, when it was in their own hands not to be in that position.

So, back to the main point.  Yes I understand, yes, within my limited empathy abilities I may sypathise with those who find themselves in that position, but It will only get worse for them, not better, so they better have a plan to deal with, not only what is, but what may well be coming. A dodgy agent is not the answer.

I hear you - same for me - took me almost 3 years of planning and organising things. Plus I stay across the issues and changes - like taxation.  But that is because I always wanted to live in a City with big city services and facilities (like golf courses and fibre internet, etc etc etc).   However, it seems very likely to me that the guys who have gone 'remote' and live in the remote farms/villages are not going to be targeted for things like the impending taxation issue - it is the guys like me who will be targeted. Example - if/when they crack down though Immigration it will be the Main Offices in the big Provinces that will be enforcing any new change/requirement. Meanwhile Somchai in a rural/remote outpost Province, will be far more accommodating to an Expat who lives 'out there' and supports a Thai family.  I think the guys living in the boonies/outback can and should not worry about too much else - but us guys in the big cities are the ones who have to plan ahead and stay across things.

Well, these extensions through agents are only possible due to corruption, which is prevalent in Thailand.

So, if you were stopped for a driving violation and offered to pay a 100BHT on the spot fine, no receipt and drive on, you'd refuse, insisting on a ticket to take to your local police station and pay the official 500BHT fine.
